Armedia ‘Sis’ Allen

LEXINGTON — Armedia Louise “Sis” Allen, 75, Lexington, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, DavidsonFuneral Home chapel. Burial, Faith Baptist Tabernacle cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Darlene Owens, 320 Ed Rickard Road.

Memorials: Hospice of Davidson County,P.O. Box 1941, Lexington,NC 27293.

 

Ann Pickler Almond

NORWOOD — Ann Eva Pickler Almond, 69, 48565 S. Strand Drive, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 19, 1932, in Stanly County, Mrs. Almond was a daughter of the late John Simeon and Janie Eldora Plyler Pickler.

A retired private duty nurse, she was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Harvey Sherrill Almond Jr.; daughters Trula Almond Mullis and Eldora Almond Cornatzar, both of Norwood; brother J.P. Pickler, New London; sisters Kathleen P. Dutton, Zelma P. Hall and Janell P. Hawkins, all of New London; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Memorial Baptist Church, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Lambert and the Rev. Nathan Fox. Burial, Norview Gardens.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, HartsellFuneral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home on South Strand Drive.

 

Ervin Lee Barnes

Ervin Lee Barnes, 79, of Newport News, Va., died there on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002.

A native of Salisbury, Barnes worked at N.C. Finsihing Co. here before becoming a shipfitter with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. He retired in 1986 after 35 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic with the First Army.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Barnes, of Newport News; two sons, Michael L. Barnes, Gloucester, Va., and Gary W. Barnes, Salisbury; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Tuesday in Virginia, with Riverside Funeral Home in charge.

 

Doris Ann Brawley

KANNAPOLIS — Doris Ann Brawley, 66, 120-B Springway Drive, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Transitional Health Services.

Born Aug. 8, 1935, in Mecklenburg County, Miss Brawley was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Genolia Deal Brawley.

Survivors include brothers James F. Brawley, Harrisburg, and Mason L. Brawley, Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rudy Teague. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Louise Fee

Louise Fee, 96, 512 E. Fisher St., died Monday (Jan. 14, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Dr. Randle ‘Rei’ Frink

The funeral will be Wednesday for Dr. Randle Thomas “Rei” Frink, 56, 425 S. Ellis St., who died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002).

Born May 23, 1945, in Billerica, Mass., Mr. Frink was a son of the late Randle Melvin and Katherine Breen Frink.

He was educated in the Billerica, Mass., schools and Pennsylvania schools and was a graduate of St. Thomas University, Houston, Texas, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Md. He received his doctorate in bilingual and multi-cultural education from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla.

He was a teacher at Concord High School, Concord, and Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte. Earlier, he taught at East Rowan High School, Livingstone College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and St. Andrew’s University, Laurinburg.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, National Association of Bilingual Education, and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. He was a volunteer translator for the Salisbury and Concord police departments, Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, and Rowan Regional Medical Center emergency room.

Survivors include wife Norma Velasquez-Frink; sons Lorenzo Rei Frink, Concord, and Michael David Frink, Rockwell; daughters Jeannette Lynn Frink, Falls Church, Va., and Suzette Marie Frink-Reed, Parker, Colo.; sisters Linda Frink, Punta Gorda, Fla., Karen Frink, Perry, N.H., Barbara Musmon, St. Albans, Maine, Margaret “Peggy” Belanger, Woburn, Mass., and Katherine Frink, Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Services: Mass ofChristian Burial, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. John Putnam.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Ellis Street.

KANNAPOLIS — Janie McClurd Litaker, 100, formerly of Tuckaseegee Road, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Transitional Health Services.

Carl Gray Long

LEXINGTON — Carl Gray Long, 65, 630 Leonard Road, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Longtown United Methodist Church cemetery, Booneville.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.At other times the family will be at the home on Leonard Road.

 

Howard R. Michael

LEXINGTON — Howard Ruffin Michael, 89, Old U.S. Hwy. 52, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002).

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Beulah United Church of Christ.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home.

 

Emanuel Parker Jr.

GRANITE QUARRY — Emanuel Manual Oscar Parker Jr., 69, 828 Dunns MountainRoad, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at his home after a period of declining health.

LEXINGTON — Ray Everhart, 69, 2158 Welcome Bethesda Road, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Brian Center Nursing Care after an extended illness.
