Lillian Sweatt Biles

KANNAPOLIS — Lillian Sweatt Biles, 83, of 12920 Dorman Road, Pineville, and formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Sardis Oaks Nursing Center.

Born April 27, 1918, in Marlboro County, SC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Sweatt, she retired in 1980 after 34 years of service at Cannon Mills Plant 4, Number 2 Weave Room.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Andrew Sunday School Class and Grace Morning Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Willie Lee “Bill”Biles, on June 29, 1998.

Survivors include daughter Sandra Barritt, Charlotte; son Willie Lee Biles Jr., southern California; sisters Irene Mullis, Kannapolis, and Ella Mae Sweatt, Florence, SC; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 3 to 5 today at Lady’s Funeral Home.

 

Henry Alvin Boone

NORWOOD — Henry Alvin Boone, 70, of 38255 Hardy Road, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at his residence.

He was the brother of Cletus Boone of Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Aquadale Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Ellis. Burial will be at the church.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home.

Memorials: Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

 

Moody Eagle

ROCKWELL — Moody Van Calvin Eagle, 84, of Rockwell, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) in Salisbury.

Born Aug. 9, 1917, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Albert T. and Mary Canup Eagle. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

He was retired from NC Finishing Company, where he worked in the finishing department.

A lifetime member of Gold Hill Wesleyan Church, he was a former Sunday School superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Richard Eagle, on April 28, 1984.

Survivors include wife, Louise Alexander Eagle, whom he married on April 4, 1941; sons Glenn T. Eagle, Landis, and David M. Eagle, Rockwell; daughter Susan Pierce, Harrisburg; brother James Eagle, North, North Carolina; sisters Ruby Lonon, Ashford, and Marjorie Miller, Rockwell; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Gold Hill Wesleyan Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Loman, pastor. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at Brookhill Memorial Gardens. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at Powles Funeral Home.

Charles V. Hinkle

ADVANCE — Charles Vernon Hinkle, 75, of Riverview Road, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

He was a member of Fork Baptist Church, Mocksville.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Fork Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Randy Queen and the Rev. Craig Seaford. Burial will be at the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the 11th District Memorial Honor Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at Eaton Funeral Home. The body will also be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services on Monday.

Bessie Pauline Lefler

CONCORD — Bessie Pauline May Lefler, 89, formerly of 370 Belvedere Drive, Concord, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Autumn Nurse Care of Salisbury following a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 19, 1912, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Ernest and Maggie Layton May.

She was employed by Fieldcrest Cannon Plant #1 in the washcloth department prior to her retirement in 1979 due to a disability.

She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church of Concord.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Banks Daniel Lefler, who died in October 1975.

Survivors include sons Charles E. “Eddie” Lefler, Charlotte, and Larry G. Lefler, Hilton Head, S.C.; daughters Betty L. Mason, Lexington, and Linda L. Dennis, Concord; brother Frank May, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Whitley Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Jason Pierce. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at Whitley Funeral Home.

 

Murry Eugene Michael

Murry Eugene Michael, 88, of Salisbury, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for one year.

Born May 5, 1913, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Eugene and Pearl Dunn Michael. He was educated in the Woodleaf Schools and attended Salisbury Business College.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 7th Armored Division during World War II and the Korean War.

He was employed with the City of Salisbury for 21 years and was Maintenance Supervisor at the city garage before retiring in 1977.

He was a lifelong member of Gays Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Good Shepherd SUnday School Class. He served as Chairperson of the Trustees. He was a member of Scotch Ireland Masonic Lodge #154 AF and AM, and the Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post #14.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Spry Michael, whom he married on Oct. 3, 1951; son Myron Gay Michael, Salisbury; daughter Patricia Michael Stiller, Salisbury; Ray K. Michael, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gays Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Jordan, minister. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Summersett Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the residence.

Memorials: Gays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or Choir FUnd, 5545 Woodleaf Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.

 

Terry Ridenhour

GOLD HILL — Terry Wayne Ridenhour, 42, of 44047 Ridenhour Road, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born July 6, 1959, in Stanly County, he was the son of Sarah Drye Ridenhour, of New London, and the late M.J. “Pete” Ridenhour.

He was employed with E.J. Snyder and Co., Inc.

Survivors in addition to his mother include wife, Crystal Maxine Eudy Ridenhour, of the home; son John Ridenhour, Mt. Pleasant; brothers Michael and Rodney Ridenhour, both of New London; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Danny Laws and the Rev. Bobby Mowery.

Visitation: The family met on Saturday night. Other times, the family will be at the home of son, John Ridenhour, 36216 Finger Road, Mt. Pleasant, NC.
