Julian H. Aull

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Julian H. Aull, Johnston, S.C., who died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Survivors include brothers Francis Aull, Salisbury, and Phil Aull, Charlotte.

Summersett Funeral Home in charge.

 

Lillian Biles

KANNAPOLIS — Mrs. Lillian Sweatt Biles, 83, 12920 Dorman Road, Pineville, and formerly of South Loop Road, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Sardis Oaks Nursing Center.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Lady’s Funeral Home is serving the family.

 

Eva Frazier Cashion

KANNAPOLIS — Eva Frazier Cashion, 81, formerly of 6205 Wright Road, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at St. Andrews Living Center, Concord.

Born June 5, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Cashion was a daughter of the late Elisha W. and Lillie Scott Frazier.

She was a former employee of Cannon Mills and owned and operated Eva’s Beauty Shop for 20 years. A nurse for 15 years, she was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Joe E. Cashion, died in 1999.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, St. Enoch Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John Mark Beam. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Locke C. Long Sr.

Locke Cowan Long Sr. 85, Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born on Aug. 16, 1916, in Statesville, he was a son of the late Carrie Allison Long and Dr. Henry F. Long.

He was educated in the public schools of Statesville, Mitchell College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He was employed in the Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he worked on the Manhattan Project.

He entered the insurance business in 1939 in Statesville and moved to Salisbury in January 1948. He opened an insurance agency here in 1950 and operated it until his retirement in 1993.

Mr. Long was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and deacon.

His community involvement included being a member of the Salisbury Civitan Club; a charter member, past president and past director of the Rowan County Wildlife Association.

Mr. Long was the original chief of the Salisbury Auxiliary Police, where he served for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Craig Long; a son, Locke C. Long Jr. of Matthews; two daughters, Jean Craig Long of Mooresville, and Marianna Long Walser of Concord; a brother, Dr. Robert Long, Statesville; a sister, Carolina Long Sanford, Mocksville; and two grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Sunday , First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert M. Lewis, pastor and the Rev. Jim Foil; the Civitan Club and the Every Man Bible Club will be seated as groups. Body will be cremated.

Visitation: Will follow service and be held in the library at the church; at other times the family will be at the home.

George Bowers Miller

WAYNESBORO, Va. — George Bowers Miller, 93, 60 Old Tower Lane, died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002) at Avante Nursing Home.

Born April 14, 1908, in Rockwell, N.C., Mr. Miller was a son of the late William N.B. and Susan Barringer Miller. He retired as a draftsman from Wayne Manufacturing Co.

A member of Basic United Methodist Church, he was on the administrative board, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school.

His wife, Amanda Almeda Miller, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters Janet Bassent, Blackstone, and Rosemary Henderson, Richmond; son George B. Miller Jr., Rosamond, Calif.; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Monday, Augusta Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Loretta Benninghove.

Visitation: After the service.

Janet Parks Reep

Janet Parks Reep, 68, Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born July 7, 1933, in Rowan County, Mrs. Reep was a daughter of the late Noah Franklin and Margaret Haitcock Parks. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

A Baptist, she retired as a seamstress from Halleyville Drapery.

Her husband, Glenn Lee Reep, died Jan. 27, 1973.

Survivors include son Michael Reep, Woodleaf; daughter Tammy Reep, Salisbury; sisters Frances Ophelia Hamner and Dale Templeton, both of Salisbury; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Howard Wagoner, pastor, Needmore Baptist Church, Woodleaf. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Michael Reep, Woodleaf.

 

Troy Vestal Whitley

HAYS — Troy Vestal Whitley, 58, Blue Ridge Drive,died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2001) at his home.

His wife, Rose Marie Herring Whitley, was a former Salisbury resident.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Maple Grove Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Miller Funeral Service, North Wilkesboro, is in charge.

Olive Morgan Surratt

ALBEMARLE — Olive A. Morgan Surratt, 83, 515 Martin Luther King Drive, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born on Oct. 10, 1918, in Lee County, a daughter of the late Queenie Elizabeth Parnell Morgan and John Spencer Morgan.

She retired from Wiscassett Mill.

Her husband, Arlie Ingram Surratt, preceded her in death.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Robert Hart; Burial in Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today, at the funeral home; at other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Dianne Archer, 2917 Clover Fork Circle.

 

Diana C. Williams

LEXINGTON — Diana C. Williams, 54, of Huntsville, Texas, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, in Huntsville, Texas.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lexington City Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Akers officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
