Myrtle N. Baucom
KANNAPOLIS —Myrtle Elizabeth Nance Baucom, 87, formerly of 1404 Brantley Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 19, 1914, in Union County, Mrs. Baucom was a daughter of the late Benton S. and Pearl Mae Fowler Nance.
Retired due to disability from Cannon Mills plant 1 washcloth department.
A member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, she volunteered with the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 35 years.
Her husband, Alfred Ned Baucom, died Oct. 14, 2000.
Survivors include sons Rex Alfred Baucom, Kannapolis, and Mitchell “Wayne” Baucom, Orange Beach, Ala.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tim Jernigan and the Rev. Vance Edwards. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 12-1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Rex Baucom, 2129 Bertha St.

Mildred L. Fletcher
MOCKSVILLE — Mildred Lowder Fletcher, 82, N.C. Hwy. 801 S., died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born Nov. 4, 1919, in Davie County, Mrs.Fletcher was a daughter of the late John Samuel and Zama Lefler Lowder. She retired from Fiber Industries, now Kosa.
An occasional volunteer at Storehouse for Jesus, she was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Jerusalem Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband, James Fletcher, died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Lorraine Webb, and a son, Donald Ray Webb.
Survivors include other sons Jerry Webb, Mocksville, and Gerry Webb, Salisbury; daughters Barbara Stafford and Libby Foster, both of Mocksville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: 8 p.m. tonight, Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Andrews and the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial, 11 a.m. Friday, church cemetery.
Visitation: 6:30 p.m. tonight at the church.

‘Jerry’ Kluttz
HENDERSON — Jeremiah Franklin “Jerry” Kluttz, 62, 240 Sam Brummitt Road, formerly of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at his home.
Born Aug. 19, 1939, in Granite Quarry, Mr. Kluttz was a son of the late Lewis Craven and Mary Butler Kluttz. He was educated in the Granite Quarry schools; a graduate of Granite Quarry High School; and attended Pfeiffer College, Misenheimer.
He was employed with Owens-Illinois Corrugated Box Co., in Salisbury and Henderson. The company was later acquired by Georgia Pacific, where he retired in 1992 as a production manager.
A member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, he was a little league coach.
Survivors include wife Doris Pope Kluttz; son Evan Wendell Kluttz, Charlotte; daughter Tracy Franklin Kluttz, Salisbury; brother Lewis Craven “Bud” Kluttz Jr., Granite Quarry; and sister Lorraine K. Lentz, Granite Quarry.
Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Friday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Hoyle. Private graveside services will be held in the church cemetery.
Visitation: After the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Tracy Kluttz, 1006 Oakmont Court, Salisbury.

Worth McKay
Margaret Worth McKay, 57, Salisbury, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at her home.
Born Sept. 27, 1944, in Rowan County, Miss McKay was a daughter of the late James Worth and Annie Louise Thompson McKay.
She was a graduate of West Rowan High School and attended Vardell Hall School for Girls, Red Springs.
Miss McKay was employed in management with Palmetto Motels Inc.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Saturday, Christ Episcopal Church cemetery, Cleveland, conducted by the Rev. Harold Elsner.

John ‘J.D.’ Morgan
ALBEMARLE — John “J.D.” Daniel Morgan, 79, 520 East St., died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2002) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born June 28, 1922, in Stanly County, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late D.C. “Bud” and Lizzie Talbert Morgan and the stepson of Mahaza Barbee Morgan.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer escort.He received the European-American Medal with one star, American Area Medal, World War II Victory Medal, World War II Asian-Pacific Area Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Albemarle VFW.
Retired after 21 years from Alcoa, he was a pot room tech. He was a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club.
He was also a member of Stony Hill United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men and the Methodist Men’s Sunday school class. An usher, he was a former member of the administrative board.
His wife, Cora Mae Newton Morgan, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter Karen Russell, of the home, and Yvonne Thompson, Charlotte; brothers Carson H. and Paul K. Morgan, both of Richfield; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at Stony Hill United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Ferrell officiated. The body was placed in the church at 10:30. Burial was at Stanly Gardens of Memory.
The family is at the home of East Street.
