‘Brad’ Holland Jr.
KANNAPOLIS — Victor Bradshaw “Brad” Holland Jr., 89, Kannapolis, died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, following a brief illness.
Born March 18, 1912, in Norfolk, Va., Mr. Holland was a son of the late Victor and Annie Fulford Holland Bradshaw. A graduate of Maury High School, Norfolk, Va., he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Elon College. He taught at North Carolina State University while earning his master’s degree in chemistry.
Mr. Holland was director of Cannon Mills laboratories for over 40 years.
A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Mr. Holland was a member of the W.J. Bullock Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessamine Bland Holland, in 1982.
Survivors include wife Frances Ward Black Holland, whom he married Dec. 25, 1983; daughter Sarannet Holland Shelton; son Victor Bradshaw Holland III; stepdaughter Janet Ward Black, Greensboro; stepson Baxter Franklin Black III, Hollywood,
Calif; sister Annette Holland Booker, Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four
stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by pastor the Rev. Don Shuman and Janet Ward Black. Private burial at a later date.
Visitation: 1-3 p.m. today, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Kenneth Walter Lyttle
MOORESVILLE — Kenneth Walter Lyttle, 77, East Center Avenue, formerly of Brawley Road, Cleveland, died Friday (Jan. 4, 2002) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Born April 12, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Lyttle was a son of the late Brather J. and Ella Mae Ritchie
Lyttle.
He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bear Poplar.
His wife, Marie Poston Lyttle, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sisters Daisy Sechler and Ruth Moore, both of China Grove, and Hazel Cress and Margaret Harrison, both of Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Milbert Kurtz. Burial, church cemetery.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Rosa Safley Miller
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Monday for Rosa Dixon Safley Miller, 92, Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie, who died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born March 27, 1909, in Rowan County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late Issac “Ike” Newton and Henrietta Fox Dixon.
Educated in the Rowan County Schools, she retired from Erwin Cotton Mill,
Cooleemee, and attended North Main Church of Christ, Mocksville.
Her husband, William Henry Miller, died Aug. 15, 1970.
Survivors include son Jesse Ray Safley, Mocksville; stepsons Henry William
Safley, Virginia Beach, Va., and James Robert Safley, Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Carriker, minister of Third Creek Presbyterian Church, Cleveland. Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.
