Hoyle Bost
MOORESVILLE — William Hoyle Bost, 78, 333 Field Trace Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2002) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Salisbury.
Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Bost was a son of the late Emanuel Sloan and Beulah Eddleman Bost.
He attended Concordia Elementary and Landis High schools, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove, and a farmer and retired from the machine shop at Cannon Mills Plant 1, where he was a welder.
He was preceded in death by a son, Presley Ray Bost, on March 2, 1982; a great-grandson and a step-great-grandson.
Survivors include wife Alice Karriker Bost; daughter Zinda Nesbitt, Mooresville; son Winfred “Bo” Bost, Mooresville; sister Lucille Deal, Mooresville; brothers Grady and Eugene Bost, both of Mooresville; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Sipes. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home.

MOCKSVILLE — William Eugene Gaither, 70, 1938 Hwy. 64 E., died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after a serious illness of several weeks.

Margaret W. Griffin
KANNAPOLIS — Margaret Wilson Griffin, 82, 108 Hemlock Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Transitional Health Services.
Born April 23, 1919, in Union County, Mrs. Griffin was a daughter of the late Simeon E. and Margaret Starnes Wilson.
She retired from the weave room at Cannon Mills Plant 6 and was a member of West Point Baptist Church, where she had formerly taught Sunday school for 25 years.
Her husband, Roy William Griffin, died Oct. 13, 1980, and sons Donnie and Jerry William Griffin preceded her in death.
Survivors include a grandson, a granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, West Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Greg Barefoot. Graveside rites, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sandy Ridge Baptist Church cemetery, Monroe.

Ruby Elizabeth Hagler
KANNAPOLIS — Ruby Elizabeth Barger Hagler, 82, 306 North Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born June 11, 1919, in Faith, Mrs. Hagler was a daughter of the late Lee and Addie Hess Barger.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she retired after 45 years in the spinning room at Cannon Mills Plant 1 and was a member of First Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband Harold Eugene Hagler; daughters Barbara H. Hartsell, Kannapolis, and Crystal H. Woodie, Morganton; sister Hallie Fesperman, Faith; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Rick Dawson. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Cecilia Logan Hillow
Cecilia Logan Hillow, 79, Genesis Eldercare, Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at the nursing home.
Born Dec. 28, 1922, a daughter of the late Claude and Faye Robinson Logan, Mrs. Hillow was educated in the North Carolina schools and was manager and co-owner of Hillows Restaurant, Washington, D.C.
She attended New Hope Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Her husband, Amen Hillow, died in 1987, and her son, Ralph “Butch” Ellenburg, died Jan. 12, 1996.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Connie Ellenburg, Salisbury, who was her caretaker; brother Thomas Logan, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE — Rosa Safley Miller, 92, of Mocksville, died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

J. Ransom Puntch
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for John Ransom Puntch, 85, 2102 Bertha St., who died Wednesday (Jan. 2, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born March 11, 1916, in Catawba County, Mr. Puntch was a son of the late D.F. “Bud” and Cossie Goodson Puntch. He was educated in the Catawba County schools and moved to this area in 1933. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in World War II.
Mr. Puntch worked for Cannon Mills for 50 years, retiring as a supervisor in the sheet department.
In earlier years, he was involved in the YMCA and was an active member of the Comrade Club. A member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church for 60 years, he served as chairman of the deacons, trustee, adult Sunday school worker and church treasurer. He was a member of the church’s Charming Years Senior Citizens group and Baptist Men.
His first wife, Selma Green Puntch, died Oct. 2, 1988.
Survivors include wife Gladys Sipe Puntch; daughter Carolyn P. Canady, Charleston,
S.C.; son John Franklin Puntch, Denver, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
