Dave and Frieda Rosenski (Feb. 22 letter) think that Kannapolis is going to prosper with all the tax revenue that it will receive from the sale of liquor.
I saw an interesting report the other day. If Kannapolis approves liquor-by-the-drink, how much revenue will Kannapolis receive? If the liquor outlets sell 30,000 gallons of liquor in their bars, the city of Kannapolis would receive only $6,000 from the special tax levied on liquor-by-the-drink. That is peanuts considering the problems that will come as a result. By the way, that is a gallon for every man, woman and child in our fine city.
Just look at Concord. According to the Concord Police Department and the Bureau of Statistics of the State Bureau of Investigation, in 1993 (a year prior to LBD), Concord had 262 arrests for drunken driving. In 2001, there were 542 arrests.
Join me and cast a thinking person’s ballot on March 5th and vote no.
