You don’t have to be a serious student of the Holy Scriptures to know that drunkenness is condemned in both Old and New Testament. You don’t have to be a serious student of the Bible to know drinking wine was part of the culture of the Old and New Testament. You don’t have to be a serious student of the Bible to know that all the good things God has given us can be abused. Somehow it seems his best gifts are the easiest to abuse.
We see it everyday — children are abused, spouses are abused, marriage vows are abused, the environment is abused, food and drink are abused, computers are abused ... the list goes on. The potential to make wrong choices is within all of us. When a father puts a loaded gun in his son’s hands to teach him how to rabbit hunt, he knows that gun has the potential to kill his child or kill someone else if the child makes a wrong choice. When a parent hands the keys of a car to a 16 year old, the parent knows the child has lots of choices ahead that will determine not only his safety but the safety of countless others on the highway.
We have a choice to make on March 5, a choice that will affect the quality of life for our community. Choose to see this town go forward by going to the polls and voting in favor of mixed beverage sales.
