Phyllis Carson

The funeral will be Thursday for Phyllis Gantt Sealey Carson, 61, Salisbury, who died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 5, 1941, in Salisbury, Mrs. Carson was a daughter of the late William Marvin and Phyllis Gantt Sealey. She was educated in the Granite Quarry schools and a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and an airline institute in Connecticut.

For five years, she was employed by Eastern Airlines in New York, Miami, Fla., and Charlotte. She later worked at the Hefner VA Medical Center and Doctor’s Building Drug Store before retiring from Towne Pharmacy.

A member of Haven Lutheran Church, she was in the Wagoner Sunday School class, WELCA, Margaret Hartman Circle, and a member of the choir. She was also a member of Spencer Moose Lodge 1197 Chapter, Women of the Moose, where she was a past senior regent and a member of the college of regents.

Survivors include husband Thomas L. “Tom”Carson, whom she married Aug. 6, 1981; son Chris Mako, Granite Quarry; daughters Amy Mako Leazer, Sugar Hill, Ga., and Lee M. Troutman Campbell, Anderson, S.C.; stepson Michael Burke Carson, San Diego, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Thursday, Haven Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Fink. Burial,Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Louise Kerr Costner

KANNAPOLIS — Louise Kerr Costner of Kannapolis died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1914, Mrs. Costner was a daughter of the late Walter W. and Jennie Fesperman Kerr. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

A resident of Black Mountain for many years, she was an operating-room technician until she retired in 1984.

Her husband, William Costner, died in 1980.

Survivors include brother Jack Kerr, Kannapolis; and sister Julia Cranford, Kannapolis.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tom Cabannis. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at her sister’s home at 504 Helen St.

Harry R. Goodman

CONCORD — Harry Raymond Goodman, 72, 3367 Goldhill Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002)at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis.

Services: 11 a.m.Thursday,St. James Catholic Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. A rosary service will be held at 8 this evening. At other times the family will be at the home of sister Marie G. Howard, 168 Simpson Drive.

Daisy P. Gudger

Daisy Patterson Gudger, 59, 1403 S. Fulton St., died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at Duke Medical Center, Durham.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Howard Honeycutt

KANNAPOLIS — Howard Buford Honeycutt, 73, 1915 S. Main St., died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) after four months of declining health.

Born May 18, 1928, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Honeycutt was a son of the late James Adam Honeycutt and Mary Pearl Honeycutt Dulin.

He served in World War II with the U.S. Army. In 1991 he retired after 47 years from Fieldcrest-Cannon plant 1.

A son, David Honeycutt, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Geraldine Gainey Honeycutt; sons Larry B. Honeycutt, Concord, and Phil H. Honeycutt, Kannapolis; brother Arda Honeycutt, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Samuel Wilson. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on South Main Street.

Hazel Kimball

ROCKWELL — Hazel Ruth McDaniel Kimball, 83, of The Meadows, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Irene M. Koontz

The funeral will be Thursday for Irene Meacham Koontz, 81, formerly of Long Ferry Road, who died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born June 19, 1920, in Davidson County, Mrs. Koontz, a daughter of the late W.M. and Carrie Giles Meacham, was a graduate of Tyro High School, Tyro.

Formerly employed at Vogue Cleaners, she retired from Leisure Lads Manufacturing. She was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, the church choir and the Faithful Workers Class.

Survivors include husband Robert Van Koontz, whom she married Sept. 16, 1936.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley. Burial in family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:45-2:45 p.m., Thursday in the church’s fellowship building.

Georgia Lash, 526 W. Monroe St., died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) at her home.

Joe McCarn

LEXINGTON — Joseph Lee “Joe” McCarn, 85, Albert Drive, died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) at his home after five months of declining health.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Center Hill Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home of son Paul McCarn, 362 Albert Drive.

Nancy Young Shores

MOCKSVILLE — Nancy Carol Young Shores, 63, Belaire Lane, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born March 28, 1938, in Clio, Mich., Mrs. Shores was a daughter of the late Clyde and Hazel Lorraine Boggs Young.

She was owner/operator of Sheets Restaurant in Advance and a former part owner/operator of Granny’s in Mocksville. She was also a desk clerk at Mocksville YMCA.

A member of Crest View Baptist Church, Wallburg, she was a volunteer caregiver and private sitter.

Survivors include husband Roy Lee Shores; sons Richard Hall and Robert Shores, both of Mocksville; daughters Pamela Peeler, Barbara Thomas and Sarah Cook, all of Mocksville; sisters Audrey Konrad, Mount Morris, Mich., Mary Ellis, Tawas, Mich., and Sally Hanes, Sandusky, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stewart. Burial, Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Wanda Storey

KANNAPOLIS — Wanda Diane Shue Storey, 55, 845 Peachtree Drive, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002)at Brian Center of Concord.

Born Oct. 23, 1946, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Storey was a daughter of Roy Frank and Florence Barnhardt Shue. She was a self-employed beautician.

Survivors include husband C.V. Storey; daughter Connie Storey Wilson, Kannapolis; son Charles “Chuck” Vernon Storey, Concord; brothers Roy, Bobby and Luther Herman Shue, all of Concord; sisters Margie Kiser and Eloise Allmond, both of Concord; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Willis Parrish. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of brother-in-law Wade Storey, 120 NewellSt.

 

Maria Nicole Styles

KANNAPOLIS — Maria Nicole Styles, 9 months old, of South Carolina, died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002).

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Jo Ann Barrow Waller

CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Thursday for Jo Ann Barrow Waller, 64, of Cleveland, who died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002)at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Statesville. She had been seriously ill since Jan. 17.

Born July 3, 1937, in Rowan County, Mrs. Waller, a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Lena Warner Barrow, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

She retired from Cone Mills after 23 years and later worked at K-mart. A Baptist, she was a member of the Cardinal Squares Dancers of Salisbury.

Her husband, Jack Waller, died Sept. 1, 1986.

Survivors include son James Richard “Rick” Waller, Salisbury; daughters Evelyn Dianne Beaver and Janet Pence, both of Cleveland; brother Jimmy Leon Barrow, Mocksville; sister Mary Coble, Turnersville,Ga.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. John Milholland, pastor, Old Providence Presbyterian Church. Members of Cardinal Squares will sit together. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.At other times the family will be at the home of son Rick Waller, Salisbury.
