SALISBURY POST

We experienced a historic moment in Spencer with this past year’s mayoral election. If you have never believed before that individual votes make a difference, surely you are now convinced.

Again, on March 5, we have the opportunity to vote for the candidate we want as mayor. I want to share some reasons I believe Buddy Gettys is the best person to fill the role.

I have known Buddy Gettys my entire life, having grown up with him as a neighbor, classmate and loyal friend. I have watched with admiration as he used his creative talents to lead Spencer to enviable successes. Salisbury Avenue has had a complete facelift as a result of his vision. Relationships with the North Carolina Transportation Museum personnel have maintained a high level of trust, both with local employees and state contacts. Spencer continues to receive recognition for the high number of volunteers who work with the mayor and town board to keep the momentum for progress. Water bills have stabilized because leadership saw the need to allow Salisbury to provide the water and sewer service since our facilities had become outdated and the cost of repairs became unreasonable. Recycling is encouraged by its sheer convenience. Street maintenance and enforcement of town codes for property maintenance have always been a priority of Mayor Gettys.

Many other accomplishments could be listed, but Spencer residents need to assess for themselves the reality of the last eight years. Why should the progress that has been started be delayed, or perhaps, stopped?

— Carolyn Barker
