Pharr streaks to third

Alabama’s LaTasha Pharr (North) ran a season’s best 8.42 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles on Saturday in the SEC Championships.

Pharr finished third, the best finish of any Crimson Tide athlete.

Davidson outfielder Brett Peiffer (East Rowan) drove in four runs in the Wiildcats’ 13-9 win over Georgetown last week.

n

Pfeiffer’s Kaci Craver (East) rolled in her singles tennis matches against Coker, Converse, Newberry and Columbia College last week.

The Falcons are 5-0.

Pfeiffer’s Damien Argrett (South Rowan) scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds in the Falcons’ 82-60 men’s basketball win over St. Andrews last Tuesday.

Pfeiffer’s Brooke Misenheimer (East) scored five points in a women’s basketball victory over St. Andrews last Tuesday.

n

High Point’s Michael Lowman (East) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in a 10-5 loss to Davidson on Wednesday.

Wake Forest’s Steve LeFaivre (Mocksville American Legion) drove in three runs in the Deacons’ 9-5 win over Cincinnati on Sunday.

Wake is 7-1.

UNC Wilmington pitcher Brian Whitaker (North) raised his record to 2-1 by pitching 6 1/3 strong innings in a 6-4 win over Northern Iowa on Friday.

Western Carolina’s Janetta Heggins (South) scored nine points and had six rebounds in a 69-61 women’s basketball win over rival Appalachian State last Tuesday.

Western also upset UNC Greensboro.

UNC Asheville’s Stacey Witkowski (North) won her No. 5 singles tennis match against High Point last Thursday.

UNCPembroke second baseman Cassie Siege (South) went 2-for-2 in a softball win over St. Andrews last week and started the season 5-for-9.

Catawba’s Brian Hatley (East) had three RBIs in a 13-0 baseball romp over St. Augustine’s last week.

Freshman forward Danielle Scearce (West) is shooting over 60 percent from the field for the Catawba women’s basketball team.

n

UNC pitcher Daniel Moore (North) had a rough start Friday in the Tar Heel’s 10-8 loss to Georgia. Moore surrendered two homers.

Virginia Tech’s Carlos Dixon (South) scored 13 points in the Hokies’ 69-64 men’s basketball win over Providence on Saturday.
