Mary Allen Deese
KANNAPOLIS — Mary Allen Deese, 89, of 1102 Venus St., Kannapolis, died Thursday (Feb. 21, 2002) at Northeast Regional Medical Center, Concord.
Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Mt. Croghan, S.C., Mrs. Deese was the daughter of the late William Allen and Betsy Ann Hancock Allen. She was a retired employee of Cannon Mills. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Ann’s Bible Class of the church.
She was preceded in death by husband Oscar Lee Deese and a grandson.
Survivors include daughter Barbara D.Davis of Dayton, Ohio; son William F. Deese of Manasses, Va.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services:3:30 p.m. Sunday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Joseph R. Crawford.

Robert Franklin Sr.
KANNAPOLIS —Robert Junior Franklin Sr., 66, of Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1935, in Orange County, Ga., Mr. Franklin Sr. was a son of the late Clint Franklin and Eula Mae Hughes Franklin. He was a retired taxi driver.
Survivors include sons Tony Franklin, Aiken, S.C. and Scott Franklin of China Grove; daughters Sherry Arrington of Surrey, Va., and Cindy Lloyd of Florence, S.C.; sisters Gladys Wyatt, Kannapolis, Mildred Barnette, China Grove, Ida Mae Stancil, Concord and Betty Shinn, China Grove; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Velma L. Harrison
LEXINGTON —Velma L. Harrison, 72, of Williamson Street, Lexington, Friday (Feb. 22, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center following six years of declining health.
Born Feb. 25, 1929, in Davie County, Mrs. Harrison was the daughter of Pearly Lee Carter. A homemaker, she was a member of Spruce Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Richard Henry Harrison of the home; sons Hoyle Harrison and Timothy Harrison, both of Lexington; daughter Pamela Jean Woodall of the home; brother Pete Carter of Greensboro; sister Dorothy Lax of Lexington and Ruth Watts of Belmont, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dora Bowles Leach
MOCKSVILLE —Dora Bowles Leach, 81, of U.S. Hwy. 601 North, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2002) at Beverly Health Care-Starmont in Greensboro after several months of declining health.
Born Sept. 8, 1920, in Davie County, Mrs. Leach was the daughter of the late Mamie Bracken and William Bowles. She retired from Crescent Electric Membership Corporation with 45 years of service. She was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Charles Frank Leach, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sister Annie B.Ottman of Greensboro, and many nieces nephews and cousins living in the Mocksville area.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Grove United Methodist, conducted by the Rev. Brad Holliman. Burial, church cemetery.

Deloris McManus
ANDERSON, S.C. —Gilda Deloris McManus, 65, of 1501 Avant Road, Anderson, S.C., formerly of Kannapolis, died Thursday (Feb. 21, 2002) at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, S.C.
Born Jan. 22, 1937, in Cabarrus County, Ms. McManus was the daughter of the late Luther McManus and Beulah Harrington McManus. She formerly worked in the sewing department at Cannon Mills and retired three years ago from Culp Enterprises in Anderson, S.C.
Survivors include long time companion Bobby Ritchie of Anderson, S.C.; daughters Judy D. Steen of Concord, Glenda Hunsucker of Rockwell, Violet Hall of Easley, S.C.; son Larry W. Steen of Ruby S.C.; step-children Sandy Ritchie of Anderson, S.C. and William “Bucky” Ritchie of Anderson, S.C.; sisters Doris Griffin of Kannapolis and Billie Freeze of China Grove; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Ernest McMillan Sr.
Ernest McMillan Sr., 78, of Carters Grove Road died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2001) at Brian Center Nursing Home in Salisbury.
Born Nov. 25, 1923, in Forsyth County, Mr. McMillan was the son of the late Tommie McMillan and Daisy Bell Brooks McMillan. He was retired from LFI in Salisbury and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He was an usher at Files Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Pearl Bobo McMillan of the home; sons Ernest McMillan Jr., Jerry Lee McMillan and Calvin McMillan, all of Lexington; daughter Vivian Hargrave of Lexington; and brother Henry McMillan of Anderson, S.C.
