CHINA GROVE — Lillie Gillespie Fain, 83, 1500 N. Post Road, Shelby, formerly of China Grove, died Thursday (Feb. 21, 2002) at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby.
Born March 30, 1918, in Sevierville, Tenn., Mrs. Fain, a daughter of the late Robert F. and Margaret Vaughn Gillespie, was educated in the Sevierville, Tenn., schools.
Retired from Rowan County Food Service, she worked at the Bostian School cafeteria.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Shelby. A former member of Landis Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Lois Rutledge Circle. She was also a former member of Central Baptist Church.
Her husband, Clarence Carey Fain, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Robert M. Fain, Shelby; daughter Judith F. Christy, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for Marie Lipe Felker, 74, 2370 Lipe Road, who died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 16, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Felker, a daughter of the late Hobert R. and Lillie Cline
Lipe, was a 1944 graduate of Landis High School.
She retired from the operations center of First Charter Bank and was a former employee of Merchants &Farmers Bank. A member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, she was active in Sunday school, WELCA and the choir. She was also a member of Rowan Quilting Guild.

Born July 2, 1919, in Spencer, N.C., Mrs. McEliece was a daughter of the late Lillie and George Devereux. She was educated in the Rowan County, N.C., schools.
Survivors include husband James McEliece, Richmond; sister Sarah Shuler, Salisbury, N.C.; three children; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The Cremation Society of Virginia handled arrangements.
Paul Josephus Miller
SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Paul Josephus Miller, 68, Spencer, who died Thursday (Feb. 21, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.
Born April 24, 1933, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Desmond B. and Nancy Kesler Miller. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and a graduate of East Spencer High School.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad after over 30 years as a hump conductor. He was a member of BethelUnited Methodist Church.
His wife, Carolyn Beck Miller, died in 1964; a son, Paul “Joe”Miller Jr., died in 1986; and a daughter, Terry Inez Miller, died in 1993.
Survivors include son Michael Paul Miller, of the home; sisters Pauline Miller, Salisbury, Jane
McCollom, Laurel, Md., and Sue Reedy, Florida; long-time companion Joyce Weant; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Born Jan. 8, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Morrow was a daughter of the late George Henry and Bertha Elizabeth Howard Morrow. She was a 1938 graduate of Spencer High School and Salisbury Business College.
Retired from W.G. “Bill”Hefner VA Medical Center after 31 years, she had been secretary to the chief of nursing. She was vice president of the resident council at Liberty Commons Nursing Center.
A member of Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, she was church clerk from 1953 until 2000; chairman of the Ruth Bagwell Circle; president of
W.A.O.; a teacher of junior and intermediate girls classes; and superintendent of the young people’s department.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
