Forgotten park

SALISBURY POST

County Parks Director Jim Foltz must be lost in his growing parks kingdom (Sloan and Dan Nicholas), so lost he forgot about Ellis Park at 3541 Old Mocksville Road. That would explain the lack of money spent there as compared to the two crown jewels. He does remember long enough to get the staff at Ellis to work at the other parks but not long enough to allow them to expand and improve Ellis. Is this because it is in the North area?

Forgotten is the Ellis Saddle Club’s attempt to donate (as in free, at no charge to the taxpayers) 10 acres, buildings and arena to expand Ellis Park. Post articles suggested there were environmental issues. What you failed to report was that tests were performed and no contamination was found. What became of this donation?

How are the individual parks budgeted (is it acreage, surrounding population, daily use)? Perhaps the Post could obtain a budget breakdown for the individual parks and put it in print for everyone to see.

Ellis Park gets used more on a daily basis than any other park and is continually neglected by the county management and the Post. People from the northern area should wake up, talk to your county commissioners and ask why they are neglecting Ellis. But don’t expect an answer because they won’t know; they are out playing in the kingdom.
