Rowan angler Danny Haga has put out a real challenge to beat in this years Big Bass
Contest. Haga entered a whopper largemouth bass which weighed 11 pounds, 8 ounces. He
landed the bass from the Dan Nicholas Park lake at 4:50 p.m. in 3-5 feet of water. He caught it after several days of warm weather.
That day all the conditions came together for perfect
bass fishing, Haga said. Haga says he is after the state record bass and says he
thinks he knows where to catch it.
Hagas catch takes the lead in the Big Bass Contest in
the Small Lakes Division.
The Big Bass Contest and the Big Buck Contest is open to
anyone who wants to enter. Both contests have two divisions. The bass competition is
divided between small lakes and ponds and large lakes and rivers. The buck contest is
divided by those taken with bow and arrow and those taken by gun.
Both contests also are divided into three age groups: 0 to
12; 13 to 16; and 17 and older.
Both bass and bucks must be taken in Rowan or adjoining
counties.
The contests are sponsored by the Rowan County Parks and
Recreation Department and the Salisbury Post. We will use pictures with each entry that is
bigger than the leader in each contest. To enter the contest, contact James Barringer at
