Archie Brewer

LEXINGTON — Archie R. Brewer, 70, of Sunbridge Nursing Home, formerly of Enterprise Road, Lexington, died Friday (Feb. 15, 2002) after declining in health for three months.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Forest hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree.

 

Helen Llewellyn

Helen Bostian Llewellyn, 70, of 412 Ackert Ave., died Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at her residence.

Born Aug. 10, 1931, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Ludwick Bostian and the late Crawford Lee Bostian.

She was educated in the Salisbury City schools.

Mrs. Llewellyn was employed with Seven-Eleven and Circle K Convenience stores for 20 years before retiring in 1996. She was formerly employed by Roy’s Jewelers in Salisbury.

She is preceded in death by husband Thomas Franklin Llewellyn on Feb. 23, 1995.

Survivors include sons Thomas Clark Llewellyn and Michael Lee Llewellyn, both of Salisbury; daughters Elizabeth Carol Mitchell of Salisbury and Terry Lynn Macy of Winston-Salem; Tonya Desantos, granddaughter who was raised in the home; and seven grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday graveside, led by the Rev. Tim Newton, minister of Christian Fellowship in Kannapolis. The body will be cremated and the ashes placed at the U.S. National Cemetery on Government Road.

Visitation: at the home of Tom Llewellyn, 203 Ackert Ave.

Evelyn Deal

GRANITE QUARRY — Evelyn Brown Deal, 84, of Granite Quarry, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at Carillon Assisted Living Center.

Born Feb. 3, 1918, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Basha Foil Brown and the late Albert Brown.

Mrs. Deal graduated from Granite Quarry High School and retired from Belk-Harry as a salesperson.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Yount Group of the WELCA and the T.L.C. Group at Powles Funeral Home.

She is preceded in death by husband George Edward “Ed” Deal in 1969.

Survivors include son Jerry E. Deal of Salisbury; daughter Jennifer D. Ousley of Granite Quarry; brothers Van B. and Roy F. Brown, both of Faith and George A Brown of Salisbury; sisters Clarice Brown and Margaret Mills, both of Faith and Voneva Brinkley of Granite Quarry; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, led by the Rev. Clarence Sifford, intern pastor. Burial at church cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Powles Funeral Home.

Beatrice Hatley

OAKBORO — Beatrice Elizabeth Thomas Hatley, 83, of 1352 Swift Road, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Big Lick Baptist Church, led by the Rev. Jeff Springer.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.

 

Hendrix Kenerly

Raymond Hendrix Kenerly, 88, of Salisbury, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at his home after declining in health for one year.

Born Sept. 13, 1913, in Yadkin County, he is the son of the late Iva Reavis Kenerly and the late John Edward Kenerly.

Mr. Kenerly was educated in the Salisbury City Schools and graduated from Boyden High School.

He was employed for Cone Mills for 47 years where he was supervisor on second shift in the spinning department before his retirement in 1977.

Mr. Kenerly was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, the Lowder Bible Class and Young at Heart Club. In earlier years he worked in the nursery department for 20 years.

He was a gold medal winner in bowling at the State Senior Games held in Raleigh. He was a league bowler at Woodleaf Lanes.

Survivors include wife Willie Rudacil Kenerly; daughter Phyllis Kenerly Beck of Salisbury; brothers Gilmer and George Kenerly, both of Salisbury; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday at Summersett Memorial Chapel, led by the Rev. Robert Heard, interim minister of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. Burial at Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Phil Meacham

KANNAPOLIS — Phil Marion Meacham, 78, of 511 Wright Ave., died at NorthEast Medical Center on Friday (Feb. 15, 2002).

Born March 21, 1923, in Richmond County, he was the son of the late P.D. Meacham and the late Susan Reynolds Meacham.

Mr. Meacham was a business owner.

He had lived in this area most of his life and was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church.

Mr. Meacham was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. He was a charter member of the Kannapolis Boosters Club. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989. He was also a member of Allen Graham Masonic Lodge # 695, and Cannon Memorial YMCA. He was a former elected member of the Board of Directors of the Kannapolis Sanitary District and served two terms on the Kannapolis City Council, from 1993 to 2001. He currently was the co-chair of the Citizens for a Drug Free Kannapolis.

Mr. Meacham was preceded in death in 1995 by his wife Annie Byrd “Ann” Meacham.

Survivors include daughters Debbie M. Abell of Louisville, Ky., and Michelle Whippel of Mooresville; son Phillip M. Meacham of Kannapolis; sisters Betty M. Spry of Kannapolis and Marjorie M. Mansfield of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church, by the Rev. Curtis Parker, the Rev. Richard Horn and the Rev. Tommy Steele. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park with military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at Lady’s Funeral Home. Headquarters will be at the home of sister Betty M. Spry, 212 Brook St., Kannapolis.

Memorials: North Kannapolis United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1307 N. Main St., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.

 

Kimberly Parrish

ALBEMARLE — Kimberly Michell Parrish, 20, of 1739 Holly St., died Friday (Feb. 15, 2002) at Carolinas Medical Center.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Norwood.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Bill Scoggins

MT. ULLA — William C. “Bill” Scoggins Jr., Maj. U.S. Army retired, 83, of Centenary Church Road, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at Brian Center in Mooresville after a period of declining health.

Born Sept. 6, 1918, in Wilmington, he was the son of the late William C. and Lucy Pruitt Scoggins.

Mr. Scoggins was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946 and from the U.S. Army in 1969. After the war he joined the N.C. National Guard and commanded Guard Units in Salisbury, Mooresville and lincolnton.

He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Mt. Ulla where he was active in the Boy Scouts serving as Troop Coordinator for all scout activities. He was employed for 31 years by Champion Paper Company, Dairypack Carton Division as a salesman.

Mr. Scoggins was instrumental in beginning the first Mooresville Gideon Camp and served as its first president.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Harriet S. Carroll.

Survivors include wife Faye Goodnight Scoggins; son William C. Scoggins III of Mt. Ulla; daughter Fay S. Edwards of Coulee Dam, Wash.; brother James M. Scoggins of Richmond, Va.; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Centenary United Methodist Church led by the Rev. Buddy Champion. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8 tonight at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville.

Memorials: Gideon Memorial Bible Fun, Gideons International, P.O. Box 872, Mooresville, N.C. 28115.

 

Nora Scruggs

KANNAPOLIS — Nora Tucker Scruggs, 91, formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday at her home.

The body will remain at Whitley’s Funeral Home pending arrangements.

 

Linda Teague

LEXINGTON — Linda Hinkle Teague, 54, of Lexington, died Friday (Feb. 15, 2002).

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

Louise Yost

Louise “Sis” Yost, 79, of 403 Yost Road, died at Rowan Regional Medical Center Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002).

Services are incomplete. Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
