KANNAPOLIS Former North Rowan star Daniel Moore will have a homecoming of sorts in
late April when the North Carolina baseball team plays at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.It is part of a package that will see Charlotte play
four games at the stadium.
The 49ers take on UNC on April 24, one day
after they meet Wake Forest.
Charlotte will also play East Carolina on
April 12-13.
The April 12 encounter will be the first
home game away from Tom & Lib Phillips Stadium since 1996, when the 49ers played at
Fieldcrest Cannon.
- AAU hoops tryouts to begin this weekend
Tryouts for the Rowan-Salisbury AAU
basketball teams will take place this weekend.
Tryouts for the 14-&-under boys will be
held at Salisbury High at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and tryouts for the 10-&-under boys will
follow at 3:30 p.m.
Tryouts for the 15-&-under boys will

- Southeast wins two boys hoop games
Southeast Middles boys won their
first two basketball games this week, stopping Corriher-Lipe 37-36 and Erwin 33-32.
Mike McGee scored 12 for the Patriots,
while Julian Samolu scored nine and Ben Wineka eight in the win over the Yellow Jackets.
Samolu scored 16, Warren Blythe nine and
Stephen Hailey six in the win over Erwin.
- Rockwell fast-pitch
softball registration
The Rockwell Intercivic Girls Fast-pitch
Softball League is registering players on Feb. 16 from 10-1 and on Feb. 17 from 3-5 at the
Rockwell Library.
Girls in grades 1-9 are eligible. There are
three age divisions. Grades 1-3 play Coaches Pitch. Cost is $30. Junior Division (grades
4-6) and Senior Division (grades 7-9) cost $35.

The South Rowan High School Booster Club
will meet on Monday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The 5K run committee will meet at 7 p.m.
- Holman reaches tennis
tourney finals
Salisburys Laura Amy Holman advanced
to the finals of the 12-year-old division of the 2002 Dasani Mayors Cup Junior
Tennis Championships recently.
Holman, seeded second, won two matches to
get to the finals, then was beaten by No. 1 seed Suzanne Michalak 6-4, 6-2.
- Hawkins records ace at KCC
Nelson Hawkins recorded a hole-in-one on
the 147-yard 11th hole at the Kannapolis Country Club on Tuesday.
Hawkins used an 8-iron. He was playing with
Jim Moore, Guy Christy and Howard Hall.
- nest Middle gets sweep of North Davie
The West Middle eighth grade teams swept
North Davie on Wednesday.
The boys won 61-48 behind 20 points from
Wade Moore and 12 each from Bradley Reid and Wesley Turner.
The girls beat North Davie 47-28. Rashonda
Mayfield led West with 16 points, while Tanunika Imes and Nicole Graham had nine and
seven, respectively.
A NSA youth baseball tournament World
Series Qualifier for ages 8-12 will be held in Greensboro on April 6-7.
The entry fee is $250. Deadline for entry
is March 15.

The Salisbury Parks and Recreation
Department is accepting registration for teams that participated last year in the
Mens Corporate or Womens Open softball leagues.
New teams can register beginning Monday.
Entry fees are $450 for Mens Corporate and $400 for the Womens Open.
Each team will also pay a $20 sanction fee.
Preseason tournament fee is $80. League play starts on April 29. Register at Hall Gym. For
