Julie Mae Ballard

MOORESVILLE — Julie Mae Ballard, 91, Deal Road, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at Big Elm Nursing Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Alexis. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley.

Shankle Crump

ALBEMARLE — Shankle Crump, 62, 815 Elizabeth Ave., died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services:3 p.m. Friday, East Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mary Lee Davis

Mary Lee Caldwell Davis, 69, 624 E. Monroe St., died Saturday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 6, 1932, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Naomi Bennett and Odell Caldwell. She attended Iredell County schools and was a homemaker. A member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, she was on the kitchen committee.

Survivors include husband Calvin Davis; sons Larry and Richard Davis, both of Salisbury, and Calvin Davis, Troutman; daughters Mary Ann Troutman, Mooresville, Janie Madgline Davis, Salisbury, and Frances Ann Davis, Spencer; brothers Archie Caldwell, Salisbury, and John Caldwell, Mooresville; sisters Geneva Morrison, Landis, and Anne Torrence, Kannapolis; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jerusalem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Bracken. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge.

 

‘Shorty’ Deaton

MOORESVILLE — James Floyd “Shorty” Deaton, 83, Mooresville, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Wednesday, Glenwood Memorial Park. Memorial, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Mooresville ARPChurch.

Nancy A. Frazier

LEXINGTON — Nancy Anne Sink Frazier, 72, North Kirkwood Street, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Second Reform United Church of Christ. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Rebecca Frazier, 506 Fairview Drive, and after the service, 510 Fairview Drive.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Tillmon E. Honeycutt

Tillmon Ernest Honeycutt, 87, Salisbury, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at the home of a grandson after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 26, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Honeycutt, a son of the late Ernest Lee and Ada Denton Honeycutt, was educated in the Burke County schools.

He retired from Rowan Mills and was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Faith.

His wife, Lucille Moss Honeycutt, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son LaVon Honeycutt, Colorado; daughter Wanda Goodman, Salisbury, and Sophia Camp, Mount Holly; brothers Fred W. Honeycutt, Elizabeth City, and Tony B. Honeycutt, Salisbury; sisters Wilma H. Gordon, Charlotte, Marie H. Kimmer, Statesville, and Ellen H. Thompson, Kannapolis; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Wednesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Carl M. Haynes, pastor, Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry.

Visitation:1:30-2:3p.m. Wednesday, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of grandson Myron Honeycutt, Salisbury.

Harry Lee Kluttz

The funeral will be Wednesday for Harry Lee Kluttz, 82, Salisbury, who died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at The Meadows Retirement Center, Rockwell.

Born July 8, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Kluttz, a son of the late Dewey N. and Carrie Goodman Kluttz, was educated at Rockwell High School and Gold Knob School.

Mr. Kluttz was a farmer and owned a saw mill. He had a portable planer and worked around the county.

A member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, he was a former member of the church council and the property committee. He was a former director of North Carolina Farm Bureau.

His wife, Evelyn Morgan Kluttz, died July 15, 1993.

Survivors include son Dean Kluttz, Salisbury; brother Don Kluttz, Salisbury; and one grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Hefner and the Rev. Lori Hefner. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Naomi V. Kowalski

LEXINGTON — Naomi Ruth Voorhees Kowalski, 74, Linwood Southmont Road, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center after six months of illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Linwood United Methodist Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Hazel Trexler Melton

COOLEEMEE — Hazel Trexler Melton, 83, Cooleemee, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at her home.

Born Nov. 29, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Melton was a daughter of the late Adam Thomas and Maggie SellTrexler. She was a homemaker and member of Cooleemee First Baptist Church.

Her husband, E.B. Melton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Elaine M.Palmer, New Orleans; brothers Ray W. and A.T. Trexler, both of Cooleemee; and sister Angeline Beam, Greenville, S.C.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Dr. Wayne Sterling. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Furr Strube

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Mary Furr Strube, 97, formerly of West F Street, who died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 26, 1905, in Stanly County, Mr. Strube, a son of the late Julius and Eliza Jane Furr, retired in 1972 from Cannon Mills. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Strube, and son Ralph Strube.

Survivors include daughters Louise Tuggle, Charlotte, Lucille Hooks, Newton, and Ruby Johnson, Southport; sons Grady Strube, Eatonton, Ga., Ray Strube, Jacksonville, Fla., and Eugene Strube, Fernandina Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Central Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home.

 

T. Scott Treadway

The funeral will be Thursday for Tyler Scott Treadway, 42, 108 O’Hara Drive, who died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) at his home.

Born Feb. 7, 1960, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Treadway was a son of the late Henry M. Treadway Jr. and Ruth Haas Treadway. He was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and Appalachian State University.

An educator, he taught at Knox Middle School and was athletic director. Mr. Treadway was a sports official most active in baseball, where he officiated for over 20 years. He was supervisor of American Legion Area III baseball umpires.

State tournament director for the Southeastern Regionals held in 1996, that same year he followed the Rowan County American Legion team, the North Carolina State Champions, to the American Legion World Series in Roseburg, Ore. He was color commentator for WSAT Radio with Johnny Cloer.

An organizer of the RBIBaseball Tournament, later known as the Dick Williams Good Guys Tournament, held this past weekend at Catawba College. He also helped organize the local high school tournament, the Clifford Peeler Baseball Tournament, held over Easter at Catawba College.

He was a member and deacon of Enon Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Survivors include wife Lavon Kim Treadway, whom he married June 6, 1987; son Braxton Treadway, of the home; and daughter Alexis Treadway, of the home.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Enon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Trexler. Burial, Friday, Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home.
