Ernie Odell Couch

MOORESVILLE — Ernie Odell Couch, 78, of 312 E. Gray St., died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

He was the father of Johnny Douglas Couch of Kannapolis.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall Jehovahs Witness, conducted by Gerald Ferguson. Burial will be at Glenwood Memorial Park.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Arthritis Foundation of the Carolinas, 5019 Nations Ford Road, Charlotte, NC.

Neill Funeral Home is serving the Couch family.

 

Spencer Junior Efird

Spencer Junior Efird, 59, of 10624 Skewlee Garden Drive, Thonotasasse, Fla., died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2002) in Charlotte as a result of a truck accident.

Born Oct. 9, 1942, in Stanly County, he was the son of Bertha Honeycutt Efird and the late Hezikiah Efird. He was educated in the Stanly County Schools and Rowan Tech College.

A driver for Estes Express Lines for the past three years, he was a member of the West A. Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Jenkins, and a brother, Wayne Efird.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Herrin Efird, of the home; son, Richard Dean Efird and Jeff Efird, both of Landis, and Rick Efird, Kannapolis; step-sons Johnnie Arey, Roger Smith and Bobby Smith, all of Kannapolis; brother Kenneth Efird, Rockwell; and 16 grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at West A Tabernacle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Pethel and the Rev. Chris Pethel. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Robert George

LEXINGTON — Robert “Rob” Lee George, 85, of 163 Oakwood Blvd., died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after one week illness.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he was a member, conducted by the Rev. Randy Tingle. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the home and also at a son’s home at 189 Oakwood Blvd.

 

Pauline Barker Martin

Pauline Barker Morton Martin, 86, of 1027 W. Horah St., Salisbury, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at her residence after being seriously ill for one month.

Arrangements are being completed by Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home.

 

Hazeline K. Mauldin

SPENCER — Hazeline Kincaid Mauldin, 87, of Spencer, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks of Salisbury after being in declining health.

Born Oct. 6, 1914, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Essie Gheen Kincaid. She was educated in the Rowan County Schools.

Retired from Delta Thread, she was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church and attended Calvary Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Roy A. Beaver and a son, Jerry Thomas Beaver.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Mauldin, whom she married on Dec. 27, 1992. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her step-son, Robert C. “Bobby” Mauldin, Salisbury; sisters Ruth Weaks, Woodleaf, and Edith Patterson, Rockwell; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services: A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rowan Memorial Park mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. Gene Best, chaplain of the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Memorials: Calvary Lutheran Church, 303 5th St., Spencer, NC 28159.

 

George Moorman

MOORESVILLE — George Truette Moorman, 81, of 370 Clearfield Drive, Mooresville, died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at his residence.

He was the father of Linda M. Wagoner of Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Thomas Cabaniss. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday before the service at Lady’s Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence other times.

Memorials: First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC 28081 in memory of Mr. Moorman.

Pauline Porter

CONCORD — Pauline Porter, 86, of 334 Tiffany St. NW, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 20020 at Universal Health Care.

She was the sister of Melvin Cline of Salisbury.

Service: 2 p.m. today at Wilkinson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Billy Ervin.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today before the service.

 

Bill Smith

ALBEMARLE — Bill Smith, 73, of 707 Brunson Drive, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David M. Rorie. Burial will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home.

 

Flossie L. Tolley

SPENCER — Flossie Lancaster Tolley, 97, of South Rowan Avenue, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at the Laurels of Salisbury.

Born April 6, 1904, in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late Rev. W.H. and Lena Parrish Lancaster. She was educated in the Johnson County Schools.

A homemaker, she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was a member of the Sunshine Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Tolley Sr. on Nov. 11, 1996.

Survivors include son John T. Tolley Jr., of Rockwell; daughters Iris Basinger, Salisbury, and Lena King, Stone Mountain, Ga.; sisters Ruth Warrick and Frances Phillips, both of Smithfield’ seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Max Mills of Trinity Baptist Church, and the Rev. A.L. Warrick of Johnston Union Baptist Church in Smithfield. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday before the service at Summersett Funeral Home.

Memorials: The Rev. W.H. Lancaster Endowment, Mt. Olive College, Mt. Olive, NC 28365.

 

Terry Dean Turner

CONCORD — Terry Dean Turner, 39, of Concord, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pine Brove Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Donald Lisk.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
