Irma S. Brown
ROCKWELL — Irma Sarah Brown, 70, of 4555 Cook Road, Rockwell died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2002) at the Brian Center in Salisbury after declining health of one year.
Mrs. Brown was born on March 31, 1931, in Boston to the late Sigmund Landsberg and Rebecca Dix Landsberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald I. Brown.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Jewell of Rockwell, and sister, Evelyn Cippoletti of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lady’s Funeral Home.

Mary Lee Davis
Mary Lee Caldwell Davis, 69, of 624 E. Monroe St. died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Jack Harris
KANNAPOLIS – James A. “Jack” Harris, 89, formerly of 1009 West B St., Kannapolis, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Caremoor Retirement Center, Kannapolis.
Mr. Harris was born Nov. 28, 1912, in Mt. Vernon to the late James Albert Harris Sr. and Margaret Brinager Harris.
He retired from Cannon Mills Company after 50 years as supervisor in the dye department.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy (Seabees). He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a member of the WJ Bullock Sunday school class, and was a member of the Oasis Shrine for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Eva Morris Harris.
Visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Church parlor.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis.

Esther E. Hewitt, 106
SPENCER — Esther Elium Hewitt, 106, Spencer, formerly of 507 S. Main St., Salisbury, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Magnolia Gardens after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 11, 1896, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Celonia Bankett Elium and Richard Benjamin Bankett. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she and her husband owned and operated the Hewitt Apartments on South Main Street.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Daisy Hedrick Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Charles Clinton Hewitt, died March 15, 1983; a son, Charles E. Hewitt, died in 1991.
Survivors include daughters Ruth Adams, Columbia, S.C., and Edythe Setzer, Salisbury; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-children.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Griffis, pastor, First United Methodist Church.
Visitation: Following the graveside service. The family will be at their respective homes.

Connie Hughes
LEXINGTON- Connie Foyell Hughes, 56 of Fairview Drive, Lexington, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after three weeks of serious illness.
She was the daughter of Kinnie Hughes of Lexington and half-sister of James R. Hedrick, Lexington.
Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of an aunt, Ardella Everhart, 204 Oak Avenue.

Katherine Perry
KANNAPOLIS — Katherine Teague Perry, 81, of 1209 Oakshade Ave. in Kannapolis, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Mrs. Teague was born Aug.2, 1920, in Gaston County to the late John R. Teague Sr. and Ethel Ussery Teague.
She was a retired employee of Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kannapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas William Perry Jr. who died March 8, 1978.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Hamill and husband, Mike, of Fountain; son David Perry of Atlanta., and two grandchildren.

Horace C. Russell
KANNAPOLIS — Horace Clayton Russell, 82, 708 Evelyn Ave., died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Big Elm Retirement Center.
Born May 27, 1919, in Monroe, Mr. Russell was a son of the late Issac Lee and Elizabeth Ellen Austin Russell. He retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Joyce Clontz Russell; daughter Joan Russell Earle, China Grove; son H. Douglas Russell, Kannapolis; sisters Elizabeth Karriker and Nancy Hinson, both of Charlotte, and Helen Whitley, Concord; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: Sunday, 3:30 p.m., Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tim Jernigan. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
