Mary B. Cauble
WILKESBORO — Mary B. Cauble, 93, West U.S. Highway 421, a Rowan County native, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.
Born April 6, 1908, in Rowan County to Columbus F. and Effie Barringer, Mrs. Cauble was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church, Cleveland.
Her husband, O.E. “Jack” Cauble, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Nellie Rash, Wilkesboro; sisters Nannie Mae Harrison and Maude Graham, both of Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services:Graveside, 1 p.m. Saturday, Lebanon Lutheran Church cemetery, Cleveland, conducted by the Rev. Howard Baker.

LEXINGTON — Martha Ann Creech, 47, 809 Wafford Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, after four years of declining health.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
John Wayne Efird
ROCKWELL — John Wayne Efird, 67, Rockwell, died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born July 23, 1934, in Stanly County, Mr. Efird was a son of Bertha Huneycutt Efird, Rockwell, and the late Spencer Hezekiah Efird. He was educated at Rockwell High School.
Retired, he was a machinist with Cannon Mills for 25 years, and had been employed at Bendix for 23 years and with Power Curbers for 18 months. A member of Mills Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Kannapolis, he worked with the Boy Scouts in the past.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Betty Jo Boger Efird, whom he married Feb. 21, 1951; sons Michael W. Efird, Salisbury, Johnny Ray Efird, Granite Quarry, and Rodney Paul Efird, Rockwell; daughter Kimberly Jo Fisher, Rockwell; brothers Kenneth Efird, Rockwell, and Junior Efird, Tampa, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, Mills Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by Elder Rom Kerley. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Esther Elium Hewitt, 106, formerly of 507 S. Main St., died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer.

Bobby Dale London
CLEVELAND — Bobby Dale London, 48, 334 Rowan Road, died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2002).
Born Dec. 20, 1953, in Rowan County, Mr. London was a son of Helen Nichols London and Robert Lee London, China Grove. He was educated in Rowan County schools and was an electrician.
Survivors include son Robert W. London, China Grove; and brother Steve London, Concord.

Ellen B. Strawn
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Ellen Basinger Strawn, 72, 1063 Westlake Drive, who died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at her home.
Born March 18, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Strawn, a daughter of the late Ernest and Dessie Medford
Basinger, was a 1947 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School.
She retired from working in education at various schools. Later, she was a preschool teacher at Footprints Academy. A member of Bethpage United Methodist Church, she was a member of the choir. She was also active at the YMCA Senior Center with the choral, handbell and aerobics groups.
Survivors include husband Billy D. Strawn; daughters Gypsie Huntley, Kensington, Md., Jodie
Marley, Blackwood, N.J., and Julie Munday, Salisbury; brother Kenneth “Sonny”
Basinger, Fayetteville; and three grandchildren.

Ernie Stuart Jr.
MOORESVILLE — William Ernest “Ernie” Stuart Jr., 74, North Broad Street, died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Born June 14, 1927, in Alamance County, Mr. Stuart was a son of the late William Ernest and Myrtle Padgett Stuart. He owned and operated Stuart’s Cabinet Shop. He earned degrees in blueprinting and design. Mr. Stuart was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, China Grove.
Survivors include wife Peggy Orbison Stuart, whom he married Dec. 18, 1953; daughters Molly Bennett, Lexington, and Elizabeth Reep and Lorretta Eakes, both of Statesville; brother Glenn Stuart, Vale; sisters Alice Shelton, Mount Airy, Sue Bacchetta, Lugoff, S.C., and Rachel Cook, Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m., Saturday, Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. G. Wayne Sipe, the Rev. Clarence Walck, the Rev. Gary Kolstad and the Rev. Edward “Eddie” Karriker. Burial, church cemetery.
