CONCORD — Louise Jewel Griffin Cooper, 77, 250 Bishop Lane, died Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2002) at Brian Center, Concord.
She was employed in the dietary department of Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Robert ‘Bob’ Gilchrist
LEXINGTON — The funeral will be Friday for Robert “Bob” Aldean Gilchrist, 80, 516 Jim Bell Road, who died Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2002) at his home.
Born May 14, 1921, in Davidson County, Mr. Gilchrist, a son of the late Aldean and Ann Mae Cross Gilchrist, was retired.
He was a member, elder and church treasurer at Shadyside Presbyterian Church and a member of Banks and Miller American Legion Hut 255.
A son, William Arthur “Pound”Gilchrist, died Jan. 20, 1992.
Survivors include wife Geneva Wilson Gilchrist; sons Robert and Larry Gilchrist, both of Lexington, and Sylvester Gilchrist, Charlotte; daughters Brenda Mitchell, Lexington, Joy Etta Harper, Washington, D.C., and Vickie G. Weathers, Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Crump. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation: 1:30-2 p.m. Friday at the church. The body may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home, Lexington.

Blanche Reid Riddle
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Blanche Elizabeth Reid Riddle, 87, formerly of 309 Cook St., who died Monday (Feb. 4, 2002) at The Brian Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 9, 1914, in Lincoln County, Mrs. Riddle, a daughter of the late Clarence Edgar and Adline Fisher Reid, was a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 sewing room.
Her husband, W.A. Riddle, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Dr. Gene Riddle, Clayton; brothers Billy, Earl and Joe Riddle, all of Kannapolis; sister Geraldine Lacky, China Grove; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Virginia J. Towell
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Virginia Joyner Towell, 88, formerly of 400 Jackson Park Road, who died Tuesday (Jan. 5, 2002) at Best of Care Rest Home.
Born May 17, 1913, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Towell, a daughter of the late James Seaborn and Connie Cagle Joyner, was a graduate of York High School. For many years, she was secretary at Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, No. 6 weave room.
An active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she was a circle leader, president of Mark Q. Tuttle Sunday School Class, and a member of St. James Sunday School Class and the administrative board.
Her husband, Onie C. Towell, died Sept. 6, 1992.
Survivors include sister Faye Joyner Rogers, Kannapolis; stepsons O.C. Towell Jr., Harrisburg, and Ralph Towell, Florence, S.C.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman, the Rev. Pat Purdy and Sarah Weaver. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Lawrence Williams
WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Sunday for Lawrence O’Neal Williams, 90, 508 Pruitt-Williams Road, who died Monday (Feb. 4, 2002) at his home after several weeks of serious illness.
Born May 18, 1911, in Davie County, Mr. Williams, a son of the late George Rufus and Estelle Mason Williams, was educated at J.C. Price High School. He retired from Erwin Cotton Mills and Daniel’s Construction Co.
A member of New Bethel Baptist Church, he was a former member of Knights of Phythians. He also attended and worked at Erwin Temple CME Church.
A son, Baxter T. Williams, died in 1944.
Survivors include wife Ada Pruitt Williams, Cooleemee; sons Samuel R. Williams, Salisbury, Lawrence E. Williams, Augusta, Ga., Henry O. Williams, Statesville, Carl M. Williams, Winston-Salem, and Harold R. Williams, Woodleaf; daughters Carolyn W. Downing, Temple Hill, Md., and Betty W. McClelland, Charlotte; brother Otis Williams, Mocksville; caregiver Dwayne A. Walker, Woodleaf; 27 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
