Bible has message about love, hate

SALISBURY POST

In response to Michael Rymer’s’ Sept. 26 letter: It is not only the Taliban who uses scripture to pour hatred on those they don’t agree with. In reading his letter it was apparent to me that he is very familiar with the scripture of the Bible. Yet I feel that maybe he is not that familiar with the message.

The passage in 1 Corinthians does list those who won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Yet if you continue reading and not just stop when someone tells you to, then you will also find in 1 Corinthians 6:11 “and this is what some of you used to be, but you were washed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the spirit of our God.”

Finally, let’s not forget what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 22:37-40. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” So by hating or condemning those we don’t agree with are we not going against the very word of Jesus? Just wondering.
