Paul D. Boger, 86, died Friday evening (Sept. 28, 2001) at the Lutheran Home in Salisbury.

Robert ‘RC’ Smith
MOCKSVILLE — Robert Clinton “RC” Smith Jr., 78, of Park Avenue, died Friday (Sept. 28, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Oct. 2, 1922, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Robert Clinton and Lou Miller Smith.
He graduated from R.J.Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem in 1941 and went to work for Southern Railroad as an apprentice in Spencer. Within two years he was promoted to the Car Department. On July 9, 1955, a severe injury left him paralyzed from the waist down.
In 1958, he bought an automobile dealership in Mocksville and helped organize the Merchants Association and Credit Bureau and served as its president. He organized Mocksville’s first Christmas parade that same year.
In 1961 he opened the Mocksville Discount House and eventually operated four others in Clemmons, Yadkinville, Newton and Fork. He served on the Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors and had been president of the N.C. Paraplegic Association.
In 1976, Mocksville residents elected him the first Republican mayor for the town in 138 years. He served two terms.
He was elected a Davie County commissioner in 1981 and served two terms, including five years as chairman. During this tenure the county government expanded its courthouse, health department and public library and built a water treatment plant.
He served on the Davie County Hospital Board of Trustees and was a delegate and secretary to the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments. On Sept. 8, he was inducted into the Republican Hall of Fame.
He was a member of Mocksville First United Methodist Church and the Mocksville Moose Lodge, formerly belonged to the Mocksville Rotary Club and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include daughter Sharon Kay Murphy, Winston Salem; sons Robert Clinton Smith III, Lewisville, Rodney Taylor Smith, Thomasville, and Jeffrey Mark Smith, Mocksville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Eaton Funeral Chapel, Mocksville. Burial, Forsyth Memorial Park.
Visitation: 2-5 p.m. Sunday, the funeral home and at other times at the home on Park Avenue.

Lois Moore Dearman
MOORESVILLE — Lois J. Moore Dearman, 82, Dingler Avenue, died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2001).

Kathleen M. Farmer
A memorial service will be held at a later date for Kathleen Miller Farmer, 82, 1303 Arbor Drive, who died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1919, in Rowan County, Mrs. Farmer, a daughter of the late Clyde A. and Maude Walton Miller, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
She retired from Belk Department Store, where she was a salesperson in the men’s department for many years.
A charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and WELCA, she served on the Altar Guild and flower volunteer committee. She was also on the flower committee at Rowan Regional Medical Center as long as her health permitted.
Her husband, Luke L. Farmer, died April 21, 1984.
Survivors include son Luke L. “Butch” Farmer, Salisbury; sister Edith Monroe, Rockwell; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

William C. Palmer
BADIN —William Clayton Palmer, 79, 20 Boyden St., died Friday (Sept. 28, 2001) at his home.
Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Montgomey County, Mr. Palmer was a son of the late John Cornelius and Beatrice Bruton Palmer. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He retired as an accounting clerk from Alcoa. A member of Badin Baptist Church, he was a member of Stanly County Country Club.
Survivors include wife Betty Littleton Palmer; son William C. Palmer Jr., Bluffton, S.C.; daughter Mary Palmer, Eden; brothers John C. Palmer, Badin, and Watt Palmer, Albemarle; sister Blanche Coggin, Albemarle; and five grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Sunday, Fairview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Dan Abernathy.

Ruth Shepherd Propst
The funeral will be Monday for Ruth Ann Shepherd Propst, 96, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 16, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Propst, a daughter of the late M.A. and Clarsie Bame Shepherd, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lee Propst; sons Charlie Lee Propst Jr. and Robert Lee Propst; and a daughter, Lillie Mae Propst Lemly.
Survivors include daughter Nancy Ann Propst Bell, Salisbury; sister Mandy Casper, Salisbury; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

James Ernest Weaver
KANNAPOLIS — James Ernest “Pat” Weaver, 57, 1774 39th St., Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (Sept. 28, 2001) at Kindred Hospital South Florida, Fort Lauderdale. He lived in Florida for 24 years.
Born July 20, 1944, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Weaver was a son of Dorothy Weaver Carmona, Kannapolis, and the late George Weaver. He served in the U.S. Navy during the early 1960s.
He was an automobile mechanic until he became disabled.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter; son Richard Weaver, Georgia; stepson Ronnie Haynes, Winter Beach, Fla.; brother Aladino Carmona, Fairhaven, N.J.; sister Jean W. Thompson, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
