Nancy Kaye Christy

The funeral will be Friday for Nancy Kaye Christy, 48, Salisbury, who died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 6, 1953, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Christy was a daughter of the late Cletus and Maude Faye Dove Christy. She was a 1972 graduate of South Rowan High School.

A weaver at Fieldcrest-Cannon Plant 1, she had earlier been employed with General Electric and Thompson’s Screen Printing, Rockwell. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include daughter Tracy Lynn Christy-Heffner, Salisbury; brother Tommy Lee Christy, Kannapolis; and one grandchild.

Services:Memorial, 8 p.m. Friday, Rowan Christian Assembly, Granite Quarry, conducted by the Rev. Mark Jones, associate pastor.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Evergreen Cremation Services is in charge.

Maxine Harris Currie

ALBEMARLE —Maxine Harris Currie, 65, 413 Lincoln St., died Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) at her home.

Born Jan. 22, 1936, in Stanly County, Mrs. Currie, a daughter of the late Paul Frank and Katie Sibley Harris, was a 1958 graduate of Kingsville High School.

She was formerly employed at Nazareth Children’s Home, Rockwell. A member of First Baptist Church, New London, she was a former member of the United Gospel Singers of New London and the Union Chapel AME Zion Church, Albemarle.

Survivors include husband Edward G. Currie, High Point; sons Edmond A. “Tony,” Darryl V., Erwin Kim, Chris C., Lester E. and Alvin A. Currie, all of Albemarle; daughters Lisa C. Rickett, Charlotte, and Patricia H. Stanback, Clarksville, Tenn.; brothers William Henry and Howard L. Harris, both of Richfield; sister Odessa H.Watkins, Badin; and 24 grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Saints Delight Church, conducted by Elder James E. Richardson. Burial, Parker’s Cemetery, New London.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church, otherwise at the home.

Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Norvell Heggins

Norvell “Babe” Heggins, Washington, D.C., formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) in Washington.

He was a son of the late John and Rochelle Heggins.

Survivors include sons Donnie, Larry and Norvell Heggins, all of Salisbury; daughters Vickie Heggins, Buffalo, N.Y., and Lisa and Josette Heggins, both of Salisbury; brothers Andrew Heggins, New Haven, Conn., John Henry Heggins, Washington, D.C., and Walter Heggins, Salisbury; and sisters Mary Graham, Statesville, and Helen McQuiller, Ines Price and Shirley Reid, all of Salisbury.

Arrangements will be handled in Washington, D.C.

Larry Perkins

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Larry Odell Perkins, 72, 904 Victoria Ave., who died Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 26, 1929, in Monticello, Ky., Mr. Perkins was a son of the late William and Mamie Buster Perkins. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was in the Big Red One in the First Division in Korea.

For many years, he was a pattern maker for Fisher Body Division of General Motors, Marion, Ind. He had also worked at Shelton’s Pattern Shop, Charlotte, and retired in 1991 from FAB’s Pattern Shop, Charlotte.

He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis.

Survivors include wife Jolene Freeze Perkins; daughter Lisa Suzanne “Suzy” Perkins, Kannapolis; sons Bobby Lee Perkins, Marion, Ind., and Larry Freeze Perkins, Kannapolis; brother Harley Perkins, Beattyville,Ky.; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Wesleyan Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Forbis L. Kivett, the Rev. Harold Adcock and the Rev. Edwin Chriscoe. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church.At other times, the family will be at the home on Victoria Avenue.

Mary Strickland

KANNAPOLIS — Mary E. Strickland, 81, formerly of Oval Street, died Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2001) at a local nursing home.
