Carla Cox Allison

Carla Cox Allison, 38, 1620 N. Lee St., died Friday ( Sept. 14, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Stanly ‘Stan’ Biggers

ALBEMARLE — Stanley Wallace “Stan” Biggers, 58, of 1412 Northcrest Drive, died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Central United Methodist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Private graveside service, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

Albert Bost Jr.

CONCORD — Albert Broadus Bost Jr., 82, of 888 Pineridge Place S.E., Concord, died Thursday ( Sept. 13, 2001) at his home.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, Concord. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Pineridge Place.

Samuel L. Cecil

LEXINGTON — Samuel Lindsay Cecil, 82, New U.S. Highway 64 West, died Thursday, (Sept. 13, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Matthew Ryan Green

LINWOOD — Fourteen-month-old Matthew Ryan Green, son of Earl Ray and Rebecca Jo Samples Green, 2400 Swicegood Road, Linwood, died Friday (Sept. 7, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Services: 1 p.m. today, Oceana FreeWill Baptist Church, Oceana, W.Va. Entombment, Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Matheny, W.Va.

Querry-Toler Funeral Home, Oceana, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.

 

Virgil R. Poe

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Virgil R. Poe, 66, of Chillicothe, father of Robert Poe, Salisbury, died Friday, (Sept. 14, 2001) at his home, following an extended illness.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, at Haller Funeral Home, 1661 Western Ave. Burial, Floral Hills Memory Garden.

Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

Joe Guy Smith

LEXINGTON —Joe Guy Smith, 73, Homewood Lane, died Wednesday (Sept. 12, 2001) at Lexington Health Care.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Wesley Heights United Methodist Church.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home.

 

Hubert Steele

Hubert Earl Steele, 82, 2220 Steele Road, Cleveland, died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Born April 6, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Steele was a son of the late James Horace and Carrie Young Steele.

He was a graduate of Rowan County schools and was a lifelong member of the South River United Methodist Church.

Mr. Steele served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW of Rowan County.

He was a self-employed owner/operator of J.H. Steele and Sons Grocery Store and Furniture Co.

A daughter, Carolyn Sue Steele, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Elizabeth “Lib” Walker Steele, whom he married June 29, 1940; sons Donald Steele and David H. Steele, both of Cleveland; daughters Wanda Steele Mann, Due West, S.C., Jan Elizabeth Steele, of the home, and Sherry S. Koontz, Cleveland; sisters Betty S. Bozeman, Salisbury, and Mildred S. Bost, Cleveland; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, South River United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Shirley Jones, the Rev. John Milholland and the Rev. Bob Lawhorn. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 -2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials: American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, c/o Statesville Red Cross, 125 N. Tradd St., Statesville, NC 28677.

Arthur Towe

Arthur Towe, 76, of 160 Plumtree Drive, Salisbury, and formerly of Easley, S.C., died Thursday (Sept. 13, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Oconee County, Mr. Towe was a son of the late Louie and Maude Smith Towe.

He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Mayfair Mills, Glenwood Division.

Mr. Towe was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Elise Snipes Towe; sons Arthur Towe Jr., Georgia, and Arthur Towe, Easley; daughters Brenda Rhodes, of the home, and Jean T. Wright, Easley; brother Doyle Towe, Georgia; sister Jeanette Sullivan, Easley; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Robinson Funeral Home chapel, Easley, S.C. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jean and Danny Wright, 108 Springdale Lane, Easley.

 

Margaret E. Young

Margaret Edwards Young, White Oaks Drive, Salisbury, died Thursday (Sept. 13, 2001) in Rowan Regional Medical Center, after a period of declining health.

Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Clayton H. and Katherine McCollum Edwards. She was educated in the Rowan County Schools.

She had worked as a clerk in the Rowan County Tax Assessor’s office for a number of years.

Mrs. Young was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Odell W. Young; son Michael W. Young, Salisbury; daughter Rhea Y. Davis, Lexington; brother Jack D. Edwards, Mooresville; sisters Dorothy E. Foil and Jean E. Kluttz, both of Salisbury; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Neill Shaw, minister, Milford Hills United Methodist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: American Heart Association, c/o Betty Brisson, Memorial Chairwoman, 140 Regency Road, Salisbury, NC 28147; or American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.
