Kathleen T. Buckner
A rosary was recited for Kathleen Thomas Buckner, who grew up in Salisbury and was a part of a well-known golfing family, on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Oceanside, Calif., where she lived for the past 21 years.
Mass was celebrated the following morning, and burial took place Sunday, Sept. 9, in the family plot in Sulphur Springs, Tenn., cemetery.
Mrs. Buckner died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, after a two-year battle with cancer.
The daughter of the late Mike Thomas, longtime golf pro at the Country Club of Salisbury, and his wife, Betty, she grew up in Salisbury and continued the family’s North Carolina golf tradition, winning national, state and regional titles, including the championship at her Oceanside country club.
A 1950 graduate of Boyden (Salisbury) High School, she received a BS degree in nursing from Duke University and master’s degree at the University of California at Los Angeles, and held positions as nursing instructor at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco, General Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn.
While at the College of the Desert, Palm Springs, Calif., she was instrumental in establishing the curriculum in nursing and became known for loving and working with children in Oceanside City schools, where she developed an outstanding dental program.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Buckner; son, John Thomas of Carlsbad, Calif.; sister Jane Thomas Anderson, Pauma Valley, Calif; brother, Mike Thomas, Napa, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
Betty Lynn Berrier
SPENCER — Betty Lynn Berrier, 30, Spencer, died Tuesday (Sept. 11, 2001) at her home after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 19, 1971, in Davidson County, Miss Berrier was a daughter of Hilda Wilhelm Berrier, of the home, and the late John Carlton “Pete” Berrier. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include sister Lori Ann Berrier Phillips, Reedy Creek community,Lexington; and maternal grandmother Irma Walton Wilhelm, Spencer.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Calvary Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. David Nelson, interim pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Pansy Moses Conner
The funeral will be Thursday for Pansy Moses Conner, 66, 881 Leach Road, who died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at her home.
Born Nov. 2, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Conner was a daughter of the late Lonnie Lee and Sadie Bundy Moses. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and earned a nursing degree at Rowan Technical College.
Employed at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home, she was a member of Memorial Independent Baptist Church.
A son, Kevin Blaine Conner, died in 1981.
Survivors include husband Manuel Dover Conner; son David Conner, Kannapolis; daughters Vickie Peacock and Lynn Shoemaker, both of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Bill Bauguess and the Rev. Bill Huffman. Entombment, West Lawn Mausoleum.

Wayne Goodman
CLEVELAND — Olin Wayne Goodman, 59, 280 Old County Road, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Iredell County, Mr. Goodman was a son of the late Franklin Floyd and Cora Cristy Goodman. He was a truck driver for Jack B. Wooten Trucking Co.
Survivors include his wife Cecelia Dagenhart, whom he married May 23, 1968; son Travis Wayne Goodman, of the home; daughters Renee Butler and Gina Goff, both of Cleveland; brother Bill Goodman, Cleveland; sisters Margaret Feimster and Doris Walden, both of Cleveland, and Ann Sherrill and Kathleen Karriker, both of Taylorsville; and six grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Amity Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson and the Rev. Larry Bost. Burial, church cemetery.

LEXINGTON — Robert LeeRoy Price, 62, Lexington, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after several months of declining health. He was the stepfather of Larry Robinson, Granite Quarry.

John Bryce Seamon
MOUNT ULLA — John Bryce “J.B.” Seamon, 84, Triplett Road, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at his home.
Born Feb. 19, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Seamon, a son of the late Willis and Rose Sapp Seamon, retired from Burlington Industries. A member of Centenary United Methodist Church, he was in the Joy Club and the Men’s Bible Club.
His wife, Myrtle Fesperman Seamon, preceded him death.
Survivors include sons Terry Seamon, Mount Ulla, and John Seamon, Statesville; daughter Phyllis Seamon, Mint Hill; sister Betty Elliott, Mount Ulla; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Glenn H. Stokes
The funeral will be Thursday for Glenn Hawkins Stokes, 65, 709 Weldon Lane, who died Tuesday (Sept. 11, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center.
Born Aug. 19, 1936, in Macon,Ga., Mr. Stokes, a son of the late Jesse and Susie Stokes, graduated from high school in Macon, Ga. He retired as a truck driver from Kraft Foods and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Macon, Ga.
Survivors include son Glenn H. Stokes Jr., Salisbury; brother John Stokes, Macon,Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, Macon,Ga.
