Adrian B. Bradshaw

LANDIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Adrian Bond Bradshaw, 77, 209 W. Ryder Ave., who died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at his home.

Born Nov. 18, 1923, in Royston,Ga., Mrs. Bradshaw, a daughter of the late Reggie and Addie Bond, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

She retired from Linn Mills Co., where she was a winder, after 45 years.

She taught macrame and ceramics and doll restoration at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and made doll’s clothes. She had a hospital for dolls and repaired antique dolls from around the world. Her craft skills won her a number of blue ribbons through the North Carolina State Fair and at county fairs.

Mrs. Bradshaw was a member of Landis Baptist Church since 1949.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years Stonewall Bradshaw; sons Ronald Bradshaw, Salisbury, and Steve Bradshaw, Mooresville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

Visitation: 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred S. Brooks

MOCKSVILLE —Mildred S. Brooks, 86, formerly of Mocksville, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Cambridge Hills in Clemmons after an extended illness.

A Davie County native, Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of the late Elisha and Daisy Noble Smoot. She was a lifetime member of Mocksville Second Presbyterian Church, where she served in all departments of the church. A teacher, she retired from the Davie County school system.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, GrahamFuneral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Leach. Burial, Mocksville Second Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Visitation: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a nephew, Rondal Smoot, 183 Main Church Road.

 

Pansy Conner

Pansy Conner, 66, 811 Leach Road, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at her home.

Charles Covington Jr.

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Charles Roger Covington Jr., 43, 104 Fellowship Ave., who died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health.

Born July 14, 1958, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Covington was a son of Charles Roger Covington, Concord, and Barbara Hooper Murphy, Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Dale Waller Covington; son Noah Joel Covington, of the home; stepmother Ann Covington, Concord; stepfather James Murphy,Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters Lisa J. Schneider, Memphis, Tenn., and Elizabeth Craig, Kannapolis; brothers William “Hulyo” Covington, Mount Pleasant, David Covington, Woodleaf, Steven Covington, Concord, and Arnold Ray Covington, China Grove; and grandfather J.M. Hooper, Jacksonville, Fla.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Robinette. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Mary Ferrell

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Mary Ann Faw Ferrell, 87, 910 Kimberly Lane, who died Sunday (Sept. 9. 2001) at Universal Healthcare of Concord.

Born March 15, 1914, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Ferrell was a daughter of the late Zebulan Vance and Mary Jane Griffith Faw. She retired from Cannon Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Ferrell, and a son, Jonah B. Ferrell.

Survivors include daughter Minnie Ferrell, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter-in-law Lillian Ferrell, 6636 Macedonia Church Road, Concord.

LEXINGTON —Mary Sue Roberts Fulbright, 77, Iroquois Trail, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Brian Center Nursing Home after a month of illness.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church. Burial,Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Ruth James Gearing

CONCORD —Ruth Naomi James Gearing, 70, 250 Red Maple Drive, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Universal Health Care.

KANNAPOLIS —Paul Douglas “Doug” Hamm, 62, 7821 Howard Ave., died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after two weeks of serious illness.

Roy ‘R.C.’ Koonts Jr.

LEXINGTON —The funeral is today for Roy Clifton “R.C.” Koonts Jr., 71, Happy Hill Road, who died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, following a brief illness.

Services: 2 today, Reeds Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the home on Happy Hill Road.

Lola Dorinda Lambert

KANNAPOLIS — Lola Dorinda Lambert, 39, 2593 Echerd St., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at her home after two months of illness.

Born June 6, 2001, in Concord, Mrs. Lambert was the daughter of the late Lilla Walters Lambert.

Prior to her illness, she was employed at Airborne Express in Charlotte. She attended Lane Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Bassem and Greg Lambert, both of Kannapolis; brothers Britt and John Lambert, both of Kannapolis, Mike Lambert, Charlotte, Matt Lambert, Harrisburg, and Kevin Lambert, Concord; and sister Carla Lambert, Kannapolis.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Lane Street Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Greg Pierce.Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Dennis W. Messmer

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Dennis Wayne Messmer, 42, 109-A S. Harris St., who died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001).

Born Jan. 31, 1959, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Messmer was a son of John Rufus Messmer, Salisbury, and Helen Sasser Barnhardt, Kannapolis. He was educated at A.L. Brown High School, Kannapolis.

He had been employed by Freightliner Corp., Cleveland, for the past seven years.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include daughters Lindsey and Brittany Messmer, both of China Grove; and sisters Debbie Messmer Victory and Donna Messmer Nicholson, both of China Grove.

Services: 12 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park,Kannapolis.

Kermit B. Mitchell Jr.

TAYLOR, Ala. — Kermit Benjamin Mitchell Jr., 53, 107 Bobby Court, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at his home after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 9, 1948, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Mitchell was the son of Ben Mitchell, Salisbury, and the late Libby Sain Mitchell.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 and was honorably discharged in 1974. A recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star, he also served for several years with the U.S. Army Air Reserve.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Salisbury, N.C., where he resided for 11 years prior to moving to Dothan,Ala., in 1981. An electrician, he was employed with Twitchell Corporation since 1984. He was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and the Phillip Jones Sunday school class.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Lois Mitchell; sons Jeremy and Matthew Mitchell, both of Taylor; stepmother Elizabeth Mitchell, Salisbury, N.C.; sisters Carol Stone, Gastonia, N.C., and Penny Rice, Granite Quarry, N.C.; and stepbrother Jerry Page, Lititz, Pa.

Services: 11 a.m.Wednesday, Mount Gilead Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tom Anderson and the Rev. Sid Nichols. Burial, Sunset Memorial Park.

Stella Osborne

ŸANNAPOLIS ÑThe funeral is tonight for Stella Pennell Deal Osborne, 95, formerly of 1433 W. A St., who died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Home.

Born May 18, 1906, in Alexander County, Mrs. Osborne was a daughter of the late Lang and Sarah Purser Pennell. She retired in 1971 from Cannon Mills packaging department.

A member of Lakewood Baptist Church, she had kept the nursery for 50 years.

Her first husband, James Howard Deal, died in 1959; and her second husband, A.O. Osborne, died in 1993.

Survivors include son Kenneth Deal, China Grove; daughter Carol Brooks, Oakboro; stepsons O.C., Edward and Jack Osborne, all of Kannapolis; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services: 7 tonight, Lakewood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Taylorsville.

Visitation:6-7 tonight at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kenneth Deal, 1470 Patterson St., China Grove.

Ralph Ours

NEW LONDON —Ralph Ours, 75, 348 Pineridge Road, Pinehaven, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Stanly Hospital, Albemarle, following a brief illness.

Born June 5, 1926, in Buckhannon, W.Va., Mr. Ours was a son of the late Hugh and Iona West Ours. He was a supervisor with Dresser Clark in New York before his retirement.

His first wife, Mabel Arlene Bashline Ours, died in 1994.

Survivors include wife Hilda Click Yates Ours; sons Lonnie, Randy and Richard Ours and Howard Vonscoter, all of Eldred, Pa., and Ricky Ours, Olean, N.Y.; daughters Debbie Baker, Eldred, Pa., and Claudie Anthony, Troy; stepsons Kurt, Bill and Phillip Yates, all of Denton; sisters Irene Stemple, Lakeland, Fla., and Louise Conder, Buckhannon, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Lick Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Hulon Pait. Burial, Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred, Pa., at a later date.

Rev.Toby Rendleman

ELKHART, Ind. —The Rev. Toby A. Rendleman, 74, 54195 River Place, formerly of 6611 W. 400 S., Russiaville, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001).

Born July 11, 1927, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Rendleman was a son of the late David A. and Grace Aaron Rendleman.

He was educated in the Salisbury, N.C., schools and was a 1950 graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury. He received his master of divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, S.C.

Ordained into Lutheran ministry on June 14, 1953, he was a pastor from 1953 until his retirement in 1991.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Special Weapons Project from 1946 until 1948 and was stationed in Los Alamos, N.M. He was a chaplain in the Indiana National Guard from 1960-1964. In 1969, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel and in 1979 was commissioned a Kentucky Admiral by former Governor Louis B. Nunn.

Survivors include wife Mary Jo Roller Rendleman, whom he married June 19, 1979; son Steve Rendleman, Indianapolis; daughters Jane Cotner, Logansport, Donna Altakruse, Washington,D.C., and Karen Blue, Elkhart; stepsons Wayne Roller, Mishawaka, and David Roller, Elkhart; brothers Charles Rendleman,Columbia,S.C., and the Rev. Henry Rendleman, Hickory, N.C.; sisters Grace Kirk, Salisbury, N.C., and Eleanor Eller, Granite Quarry,N.C.; and 11 grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday,Christ Lutheran Church, Kokomo, conducted by the Rev. Mark Sloss, the Rev. David Williamson and the Rev. Henry Rendleman. Entombment, Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum,Kokomo.

LEXINGTON — Joe “Buck” Tysinger Jr., 76, Chestnut Street, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: Graveside, 2 today, Lexington City Cemetery, conducted bythe Rev. Dr. Ray Howell III and the Rev. Tommy Wilson. Military rites by VFWPost 3074. At other times, the family will be at the home on Chestnut Street.

Curtis V. Wood

KANNAPOLIS — Curtis Vernon Wood, 60, 1012 Kentucky St., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health and a month of serious illness.

Born March 14, 1941, in Lavonia,Ga., Mr. Wood was a son of Floyd H. and Beatrice Decker Wood. He was a truck driver for American Freightway, Akers Motor Lines and Collins &Aikman.

He was a member of Lane Street Church of God, Cannon Masonic Lodge 626, Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Temple.

Survivors include wife Brenda C. Wood; daughters Tracy Tyson and Kelly Ledbetter, both of Kannapolis; son Curtis V. Wood Jr., Kannapolis; sister Johnie Sue Martin, Kannapolis; brother Grady H. Wood, Mooresville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Enochville Church of God, conducted by the Rev. David Shoemake and the Rev. Wade Easom. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.
