Martha H. Bowers

OAKBORO — Martha Jane Huneycutt Bowers, 75, 20605 AustinRoad, mother of Doug Bowers, Albemarle, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, HartsellFuneral Home,Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home on Austin Road.

Adrian Bradshaw

LANDIS — Adrian Bradshaw, 77, 209 W. Ryder Ave., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at her home.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Robert ‘Bill’ Brown Jr.

LANDIS —Robert William “Bill”Brown Jr., 49, 611 W. Ridge Ave., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001)at his home.

Born Nov. 28, 1951, in Rowan County, Mr. Brown was a son of Viola Garrett Brown, of the home, and the late Robert William “Bill” Brown.

He was a graduate of South Rowan High School and WesternCarolina University, where he earned a degree in business administration.

Owner and operator of Brown’s Lawn and Garden Design, he was previously employed by Kannapolis County Club as assistant superintendent.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was a past member of Landis Lions Club.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include sons Robert William “Trey” Brown III and Derek Floyd Brown, both of Salisbury; brother Bobby G. Brown, Landis; and sister Shelia B. Bailey, Lakewood, Ohio.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Ferrell

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Ann Faw Ferrell, 87, 910 Kimberly Lane, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Universal Healthcare, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Robert Linn

CONCORD — Robert Montgomery Linn, 82, 4351 Odell School Road, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 20, 1919, in Kannapolis, Mr. Linn was a son of the late Curtis M. and Kitty Sechler Linn. He retired from Burlington Industries.

During World War II, he worked at Goodyear Aircraft, Akron, Ohio. He was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elaine Morrison Linn; sons Robert Eugene Linn, Kannapolis, and Stephen Ray Linn, Concord; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Gilmore Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Jay K. Rabuck. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel,Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on Odell SchoolRoad.

Dennis Messmer

CHINA GROVE — Dennis Messmer, 42, 109-A S. Harris St., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at his home.

Stella Osborne

KANNAPOLIS - Stella Pennell Deal Osborne, 95, formerly of 1433 W. A St., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Home.

Born May 18, 1906, in Alexander County, Mrs. Osborne was a daughter of the late Lang and Sarah Purser Pennell. She retired in 1971 from Cannon Mills packaging department.

A member of Lakewood Baptist Church, she kept the nursery for 50 years.

Her first husband, James Howard Deal, died in 1959; and her second husband, A.O. Osborne, died in 1993.

Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Lakewood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Taylorsville.

Visitation:6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Hazel B. Phillips

MOCKSVILLE —Hazel Baldwin Phillips, 59, Main Church Road, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Nov. 25, 1941, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Noah Baldwin and Juanita Wood. She was employed at Southeastern Sewing and a was member of Gospel Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Buster Phillips; son Jeff Hutchins, Mocksville; daughters Karen Kimrey and Tammy Hutchins, both of Mocksville; stepdaughter Betty Jo Laymon, Mocksville; brothers Henry Baldwin, Harmony, Robert, Tim and Bill Baldwin, all of Elkin, and Glenn Baldwin, Boonville; sisters Gladys Minton, Statesville, Katherine Johnson, North Wilkesboro, and Patricia Russell, Ronda; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday,Gospel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hobson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

 

Beula L. Potts

MOORESVILLE — Beula L. Potts, Mooresville, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born March 7, 1915, in Cooleemee, Mrs. Potts was a daughter of the late P.W. and Fannie Lagle. She was educated in the Cooleemee and Salisbury schools.

She was employed at Mooresville Mills, Burlington, until her 1978 retirement. She had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1941, teaching 3-year-old children in Sunday school of many years.

She married Baxter B. Potts in 1941. He died in 1982.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. E. Harvey Rogers. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Cope Swaim

BURLINGTON — Mary Cope Swaim, 79, 703 Engleman Ave., a native of Cooleemee, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001).

Mrs.Swaim was born Dec. 2, 1921, to the late Thomas Ray and Myrtle Jordan Cope. She was a graduate of Cooleemee High School and attended business college in Winston-Salem.

Formerly employed by Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, later as financial secretary at First Baptist Church, Burlington, she stopped work when she became disabled.

She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday school classes and was a member ofWMU.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Fair L. Swaim; daughter Lynn Swaim Johnston, Mooresville; son Dr. J. Craig Swaim, Raleigh; sister Carolyn Woodham, Wilmington; brother William Cope, Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, Burlington, conducted by Dr. Craig McMahan and the Rev. Phillip Hughes. Burial, Alamance Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Rich &Thompson Mortuary, Burlington. At other times the family will be at the home on Engleman Avenue.

 

Curtis Wood

KANNAPOLIS — Curtis Vernon Wood, 60, 1012 Kentucky St., died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,Concord.
