Barbara Ann Coble

OAKBORO — Barbara Ann Bowers Coble, 63, 336 W. 11th St., died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at the Hospice House of Union County, Monroe. She was the sister of Ted Bowers, New London.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Oakboro Baptist Church. Burial, Oakboro Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The rest of the time, the family will be at the 11th Street home.

Memorials: Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.

 

Earl ‘Pete’ Huneycutt

ALBEMARLE — Earl “Pete” Huneycutt, 82, 29148 Pennington Road, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Plyer Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery with military honors by Albemarle-Stanly DAV.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home.

 

Alphonso ‘Pop’ Jones

Alphonso “Pop” Jones, 57, 825 N. Green St., died Wednesday (Sept. 5, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center.

Born Sept. 6, 1943, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Cora Headen and James Rufus Jones.

Mr. Jones graduated from Logan High School and was a truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in Vietnam and a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107. He was one of the original member of the Gospel Trumpets singing group and was a member of Zion Wesley AME Zion Church.

Survivors include stepson Jamard Williams, Concord; daughter Giquilla Renay Roebuck, Salisbury; stepdaughter Rachell Williams, Concord; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation: None. The body will be viewable at Rowan Funeral Service.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Queen Jones. Burial, 10 a.m. Tuesday, National Cemetery, VA Medical Center; military rites by the Rowan Veterans Council.

 

Carol Ballard Moss

Carol Ballard Moss, 83, 820 Klumac Road, formerly of Wellington Hills Circle, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at N.C. Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

Born Sept. 7, 1918, in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Lottie Hovis Ballard and Depew M. Ballard.

Mrs. Moss graduated from Cramerton High School. She was a clerk for Beaunit Mills, Lowell, and was later employed by the Florida Department of Transportation before she retired.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury; charter member and organizer of West Cramerton Baptist Church; and a member of the Eastern Star in Cramerton, N.C. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Gastonia. While in Florida, she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union at the First Baptist Church in DeLand and the Businesses Women’s Association.

Her husband, J. Howard Moss, died Dec. 9 1999.

Survivors include daughter Nancy M. Morra, Sarasota, Fla., eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Burial, Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: After the service in Gastonia. The body will remain at Summersett Funeral Home prior to the service.

Walter ‘Bubba’ Smith

KANNAPOLIS — Walter Graham “Bubba” Smith, 78, 210 Blackwelder St., died Friday (Sept. 7, 2001) at his sister’s residence in China Grove.

Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Kannapolis, he is the son of the late Jane Tevepaugh and Wiley Gaither Smith.

Mr. Smith was educated in Rowan County schools. He retired from Cannon Mills after 45 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Saipan and the South Pacific. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include sister Blanche Sechler, China Grove.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, Landis. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
