Mary Smith Clark
Mary Catherine Smith Clark, 81, Lutheran Home, died Sunday (Sept. 2, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, after a week of critically illness.
BornJuly 1, 1920, in Spencer, Mrs. Clark, a daughter of the late Jay L. and Elizabeth Nemmons Smith, was a graduate of Spencer High School and Catawba College.
A teacher, she taught in the Burlington schools prior to her marriage. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Spencer, where she was a deacon, a member of the Louise Stukenbrok Circle and teacher of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class.
Her husband,John Foster Clark, died June 8, 1991.
Survivors include son Eric S. Clark, Linwood; daughters Lynn C. Ritch, Dunn, Nancy C. Thornburg,Lewisville, Marianne C. Holt, Matthews, and Martha J. Clark, Charlotte; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church, Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Franklin Myers. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Forest Hills Memorial Park, Lexington.

Ruth Hopper Corry
EAST SPENCER — Ruth Hopper Corry, 89, 502 S. Long St., died Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.
Born May 27, 1912, in Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs. Corry, a daughter of the late Harrison and Norvella Borders Hopper, was educated in the Blacksburg, S.C., schools.
She was a domestic worker. A member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, she served on the Usher Board and as church secretary for 30 years.
Her husband, Alonzo Corry, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughter Virginia Wheeler, Salisbury; stepson Willie Corry, Roosevelt, Long Island, N.Y.; sisters Eula Kilgore, New London, and Juanita Thomas, Atlantic City, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

CLEVELAND — Carrie Ruth Warren Livengood, 61, Third Creek Church Road, died Monday (Sept. 3, 2001) at her home.
Born Sept. 23, 1939, in Darlington County, S.C., Mrs. Livengood was a daughter of the late Lide and Mae Bell Gainey Warren. She was employed by West Rowan Restaurant and Grocery.
Survivors include husband Grimes A. Livengood; son Carl E. Livengood,Cleveland; brother Lorraine Warren, Dovesville, S.C.; sisters Geraldine Barefoot, Hartsville, S.C., and Grace Gandy and Christine Warren, both of Dovesville, S.C.; and four step-grandchildren.

Harry Gaines Miller
CHINA GROVE — Harry Gaines Miller, 89, 314 Park St., died Sunday (Sept. 2, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 22, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Bachman Henry and Mamie Smith Miller. He was a graduate of Farm Life School and a self-employed painter. A member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include brothers William Edward Miller, China Grove, and James Ray Miller, Atlanta, Ga.; and stepsister Sara Miller Simon, Tucson, Ariz.
Services: 11 a.m.Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. David Swygert. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery.

CLEVELAND —Margaret Blackwelder Morrow, Ostwalt Amity Road, died Monday (Sept. 3, 2001) at Davis Regional Medical Center,Statesville.
Born Oct. 9, 1922, in IredellCounty, Mrs. Morrow was a daughter of the late Eugene W. and Ada Cowan Blackwelder. She was a graduate of Troutman High School.
A member of Triplett United Methodist Church, she was in the Ladies Bible class. She retired from Troutman Industries due to her illness, myasthenia gravis.
Survivors include husband W. Neill Morrow, whom she married June 21, 1942; sister Katherine Hart, Statesville; and brother E.W. Blackwelder Jr., Laurel Hill.

Janis Marie Swink
Janis Marie Rex Swink, 47, Salisbury, died Monday (Sept. 3, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after four weeks of serious illness.
Born Oct. 26, 1953, in Rowan County, Mrs. Swink was a daughter of Rachel Floyd Rex Mowry, Salisbury, and James W. Rex, Kannapolis. She was educated in the Salisbury city schools, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Salisbury Business College and Salisbury Beauty College.
A licensed beautician, she was last employed by Marshall’s department store. She was a Methodist.
A son,Ryan Michael Swink, died in 1983.
Survivors include husband Paul Frederick “Rick” Swink, whom she married Feb. 7, 1976; son Justin Eugene Swink, of the home; brothers David M. Rex, Hurst, Texas, and Gary L. Rex, Salisbury; sister Elaine Rex Whitaker,Salisbury; stepmother Louise Rex,Kannapolis; and stepfather Dr. Eugene Mowry, Salisbury.
