Setting a spooky stage

BY JAMES BARRINGER
SALISBURY POST

There’s something scary around the bottom side of the Oakland Meadows Mobile Home Park off Majolica Road.

It’s so frightening that some neighbors are too scared to walk down there. There have been reports of weird sounds, mean laughter and strange sightings coming from the bottom.

Others reported seeing large black rats, freshly dug graves and capes with monster heads. Even more reports tell of monsters sitting around a table waiting for kids for dinner, and an undertaker has been spotted preparing coffins in the bottom’s graveyard.

Don’t be scared, say Jim and Debbie Shaffer. It’s their graveyard, prepared just in time for Halloween night.

“We built it for the kids,” Debbie Shaffer said. “But we really don’t want to scare the kids off. Our grandchildren will love it.”

Jim Shaffer built most of the Halloween display himself. “I worked after work and on weekends for two weeks getting it set up,” he said.

“He’s just a big kid,” his wife said. “He loves it.”

“I have made a special costume for Halloween night and will greet all the trick or treaters as an alien,” Jim Shaffer said.

The Shaffers had so much fun building the Halloween graveyard that they already are thinking about next year’s scene.

“Next year it will look better,” Jim Shaffer said.
