Project symbolizes progress in Landis

SALISBURY POST

Being a new resident of Landis, I have visited the Town Board meetings recently and I like what I see. The town of Landis should be proud of the direction our Town Board took on Tuesday night (Oct. 23). The Atlantic American Properties project with its upscale homes will be the envy of the county in years to come. I am glad to see the Town Board take a direction that was progressive toward economic development. This is a multi-million dollar project and it will be a part of Landis.

With an increase in water rates on the horizon (due mostly to losing China Grove as a water customer), it makes sense that Landis should seek other water customers to spread out the cost. The AAP project will enhance Landis’ tax base and utility revenues without negatively impacting current residents’ bills. The timing could not be any better for Landis as it needs the additional customers. I commend Mayor Fred Steen and his board and town staff in taking the proper steps in this direction.

I would also like to commend the town for providing factual information concerning future water rates and how they would impact citizens. Information was provided to citizens the other night whether it was good or bad, positive or negative. Citizens should be informed and we have been. Landis voters, we need to keep our progressive mayor and board.
