Hazel Huffman Brown
LANDIS — Hazel Virginia Huffman Brown, 84, 103 N. Meriah St., died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born June 5, 1917, in Landis, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Knox Clinton and Ina Mae Gantt Huffman.
Educated in the Rowan County Schools, she retired from Linn Corriher Mills, after 50 years of service, and was a member of Landis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Scott W. Brown, who died on Aug. 19, 1976, and son Robert Reid Brown.
Survivors include daughter Sylvia Dean Eller, China Grove; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Richard Horn. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Nancy ‘Marie’ Shue
Nancy “Marie” Agner Shue, 78, Salisbury, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. She had been in declining health for three months and seriously ill for two weeks.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shue was a daughter of the late Mose L. and Alice Lowder Agner.
Educated in the Rowan County Schools, she retired in 1992 from Burlington Industries, where she worked as a seamstress.
Her husband, Willie Lee Shue, died Sept. 18, 1978.
Survivors include sons Richard Lee Shue, Salisbury, and Jerry Wayne Shue, Gold Hill; daughters Carolyn S. Blakeslee and Judy S. Athey, both of Salisbury; sister Wilma Varnadore, Rockwell; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Monday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Carroll L. Robinson, pastor, Lebanon Lutheran Church.

Ruth Spry Veach
MOCKSVILLE — Ruth Spry Veach, 89, Veach Lane, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at her home.
Born Dec. 18, 1911, in Davie County, Mrs. Veach was a daughter of the late Aaron H. and Geneva Mayberry Spry.
She had worked for Erwin Mills in Cooleemee, was a longtime member of Liberty United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
She was preceded in death by husband Lester Veach, who died on July 21, 1957, and daughter Betty Sue Williams.
Survivors include sons Johnny R. Veach, Mocksville, Lester Veach Jr., Cleveland, Tenn., and Aaron E. Veach, Rural Hall; daughter Nancy V. Cook, Mocksville; half-brothers Charles W., Jerry and Wayne Spry, China Grove-Kannapolis area; and half-sisters Dorothy Hauss and Phyllis Spry, China Grove-Kannapolis area; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Andrews. Burial, Liberty United Methodist Church cemetery.
