Paul E. Allen

MOCKSVILLE — Paul E. Allen, 82, Cornatzer Road, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at his home.

Born April 12, 1919, in Davie County, Mr. Allen was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Winters Allen.

He was retired from R.J.Reynolds Tobacco Company, with 26 years of service, and had worked with a milk bottling company in Charlotte.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and was a member of Redland Pentecostal Church, where he served as a church usher. He was an honorary member of the Cornatzer Dulin VFD.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marga Lennemann Allen, his second wife, Katherine Fine Allen, and a son, Larry Allen.

Survivors include sons Michael Allen, Patrick Allen and Jerome Allen, all of Mocksville, Jimmy Allen, Westfield and Harold Walker, Lexington; daughters Viola Deal, Gibsonville, Linda Herion, Salisbury, and Dianne Grubb, Brenda Knoll, Cindy Beddard and Shelia Stanley, all of Mocksville; brothers James Allen, Gastonia, Hathan Allen, Mocksville, Daniel Allen, Asheville, and Jerry Allen, Salisbury; sisters Edna McClary, Rockwell, Margaret Byerly, Lexington, Hazel Estes, Salisbury, Marie Shoaf, Statesville, and Nellie Cooper, Winston-Salem; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joel Boyles and the Rev. James Stowe. Burial, Cornatzer United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:3-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lydia Curry

CONCORD — Lydia “Miss Sweetie” Benson Curry, 95, formerly of 201 James St., Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at Avante at Concord.

Born July 6, 1906, in Lancaster County, S.C., Mrs. Curry was a daughter of the late Robert and Jency Johnson Benson.

She was a member of the missionary board of Marable Memorial Church.

Survivors include daughters Senella Outen and Delores Murdock, both of Kannapolis, and Adelaid Barnes, Charlotte; sons Robert Curry and Paul Curry, both of Kannapolis; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Marable Memorial AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Grant Harrison Jr. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Monday at the church.

Bryant-Lytle-Young of Kannapolis is in charge.

 

Donald N. Daniels

KANNAPOLIS — Donald Nicator Daniels, 67, Gee Drive, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 15, 1934, in Iredell County, Mr. Daniels was a son of the late Alma Daniels.

He was an employee of Templon-Chempsun for over 30 years and retired from Parkdale Mills, Landis. A U.S.Army veteran, he was a member of Unity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Gee Daniels, whom he married July 28, 1959; sons Donald Nicator Daniels Jr., China Grove, and Jason H. Daniels, Charlotte; daughters Wanda Annette Bently, Kannapolis, and Sandra Lynn Causey, Mooresville; brother Perry Daniels, Mooresville; sister Brenda Freeze, China Grove; and seven grandchildren.

Services 3 p.m. Sunday at Unity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Settle. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Winston Reece Dillard

CONCORD — Winston Reece Dillard, 73, 2609 Lyla Ave., died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center after six months of declining health.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Charity Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. R.J.Hammond and the Rev. Gene Beaver. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the residence Saturday and Sunday, where the body will lie in state until it is taken to the church at 1 p.m., Sunday.

Memorial: Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge 626, P.O.Box 683, Kannapolis, NC 28082-0683.

 

Jack Clegg Efird

MOUNT PLEASANT — Jack Clegg Efird, 71, 29011 C Lambert Road, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at the Stanly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carl Richael. Burial will be in the Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Other times, the family will be at the home of son Joseph Efird, 29011 B Lambert Road.

 

Deborah Best-Friedman

WILMINGTON — Deborah Ann “Debie”Best-Friedman, 36, Fireside Court, formerly of Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at her residence.

Born Sept. 7, 1965, in McKessport, Penn., Mrs. Best-Friedman was a daughter of Richard Dale and Barbara Jean Piper Best of Kannapolis.

She, with her husband, owned Friedman Chiropractic Clinic in Wilmington. She had lived in Wilmington for 10 years.

In addition to her parents, survivors include husband Dr. David Friedman; sisters Wendy Ann Best Habenicht, China Grove, and Melissa Lynn Best Lawter and Amy Lynn Best, both of Kannapolis; and brothers Richard Dale Best Jr., Statesville, and Edwin Albert Best, Kannapolis.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Forbis Kivett.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Alsace Knight Moore

KANNAPOLIS — Alsace Lorraine Knight Moore, 82, Autumn Care of Salisbury, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 11, 1919, in Guilford County, Mrs. Moore was a daughter of the late Henry Francis and Mamie Liggins Knight. She retired from Linn-Corriher Mills in Landis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Oliver Moore, in 1974 and a son, Thomas Alvin Moore, in 1994.

Survivors include daughters Dorothy McManus, Rockwell, Barbara Herbert, Kannapolis, and Ann Kirkman, Lexington; son Johnny Moore, Mooresville; foster son, Bill Walters, Kannapolis; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Sunday, Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Bill Bauguess.

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 p.m., Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Dorothy McManus, 2400 Lower Stone Church Road, Rockwell.

 

Josephine Morgan

ALBEMARLE — Josephine Beaver Morgan, 77, 24724 U.S.Hwy. 52 South, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at N.C.Lutheran Nursing Homes Inc.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, First Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John W. Futterer. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, is in charge.

Linda J. Ollis

Linda J. Ollis, 51, Lois Lane, Salisbury, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Born Nov. 20, 1949, in Davidson County, Mrs. Ollis was a daughter of Everett and Vallie Davis Jarrett.

She was a guidance counselor and testing director at Erwin Middle School as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include husband Joe L. Ollis; and sister Kay Franklin, Lexington.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday at Center Hill Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member, conducted by the Rev. Layne Wallace, the Rev. Lamar Moore and the Rev. Jock Ollis. Buried in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home. At other time, the family will be at their homes.
