MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Richard Alfred Beeding, 75, Pinebrook School Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born June 27, 1926, in Davie County, Mr. Beeding, a son of the late Wiley F. and Jewel Taylor Beeding, was educated at Smith Grove School and Mocksville High School.
He retired from Furches Motor Co. after 20 years and had earlier been employed for 21 years at Reynolds Tobacco Co. He was an active member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and served on the administrative board. A past commander of VFW Post 4024, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
ýurvivors include wife of 51 years Betty Danner Beeding; son Billy R. Beeding, Winston-Salem; daughter Judy B. Ledford, Winston-Salem; brothers William M. Beeding, Mocksville, and James R. Beeding, Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m.Friday, Smith Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris Clontz. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial with military rites, church cemetery.

Wilbert F. Carriker
CLEVELAND — Wilbert Franklin Carriker, 82, Cleveland, died Tuesday (Oct 23, 2001) at his home.
Born March 4, 1919, in Davie County, Mr. Carriker was a son of the late Will Franklin and Minnie Leonard Carriker. He was educated in the Davie County schools.
A Baptist, he retired as a self-employed lumber cutter.
His wife, Martha Jane Waller Carriker, died Nov. 12, 1993.
Survivors include sons Johnny Carriker, Salisbury, and Wilbert Timothy Carriker, China Grove; daughter Hilda Horton, China Grove, Shirley Jane Brooks, Cleveland, and Sarah Hamner, Van Alystne, Texas; brother Raymond Carriker,Salisbury; sisters Betty Kimbrell, Spencer, and Louise Rabon, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Chris O’Guin, pastor, Community Baptist Church.
Visitation: None. The family will be at the home of Johnny Carriker.

Loy Joseph Eller
Loy Joseph Eller, 88, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at GenesisEldercare of Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 3, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Eller, a son of the late Arthur and Gertrude Poole Eller, was a graduate of Rockwell High School.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A nose gunner on B-24 bombers, 8th Air Force in England, 466th Bomb Group, 487 Bomb Squadron, he flew the last missions into Germany before the end of the war. He received the Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European Theater Ribbon.
In 1976, he retired as a supervisor from Cannon Mills, where he had worked a total of 38 years. He was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was active in all phases of the church, including the church council. He was also active with the Boy Scouts at Calvary Lutheran Church.
A son, Thomas Michael Eller, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Eloise Thomas Eller, whom he married Nov. 30, 1940; and sisters Florence Eller Brown and Ruby Eller Yarbrough, both of Salisbury.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William H. Battermann. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 12-1 p.m. Friday at the church educational building.

Dewell T. Funderburk
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Dewell Theodore “D.T.”Funderburk, 74, 302 Glenn Ave., who died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at his home.
Born Sept. 24, 1927, in Union County, Mr. Funderburk was a son of the late Isaac Theodore and Cary Melton Funderburk. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon, Plant 4 spinning room and was a part-time worker at Carolina Mall maintenance department.
A member of Central Baptist Church, he was a former deacon and usher.
Survivors include wife Ruby Stacks Funderburk; daughters Vickie F. Hunsucker, Rita F. Harwell and Karen F. Tucker, all of Concord; brothers Farley Funderburk, Monroe, and Norman Funderburk, Lancaster, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

‘Lenny’ Henry
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Eldridge Newton “Lenny” Henry, 67, 2105 Strickland Court, who died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at his home after a brief illness.
Born June 7, 1934, in Houston,Texas, Mr. Henry was a son of the late Levi and Verna Lerlie Thompson Henry. He retired in 1998 from Fieldcrest Cannon sewing room.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include wife Lois Jackson Henry; son Jackson Henry, China Grove; daughters Janette Doolittle, Dunkin, S.C., Shirley Graves, Holly Ridge, and Linda Sossomon., Kannapolis; sisters Lerli Williams and Margaret Goins, both of Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

WOODLEAF — John Ray McClamrock, 43, Woodleaf, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1957, in Rowan County, Mr. McClamrock was a son of Lester McClamrock, Salisbury, and the late Dorothy Pierce McClamrock. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.
He was a driver with Knight Oil Co.,Cleveland, and owned and operated John’s Small Engine Repair. He was a member of Woodleaf United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include daughters Emily McClamrock, of the home, and Amanda Walters, Rowan County; brother Frank McClamrock, Salisbury; sister Ann Lyerly, Salisbury; and one grandson.

Annie Kepley Shoaf
Annie Marie Kepley Shoaf, 97, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at the Salisbury home of daughter Judy McLaughlin. She was in declining health for over three years and seriously ill for six weeks.
¾orn March 26, 1904, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shoaf, a daughter of the late Clinto Thomas and Fannie Dorcas Wood Kepley, was educated in the Rowan County schools and was trained as a teacher.
She taught at Landis School and was later a homemaker. A lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, she was the oldest member of the church. She was active in all phases of the church until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband,Richard Lee Shoaf, and a son, Perry H. Shoaf.
Survivors, in addition to daughter Judy McLaughlin, include son Gerald Shoaf, Salisbury; daughter Carol Shoaf Smith, Salisbury; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

RALEIGH — Joyce Ratliff Somers, 51, 6120-201 Sunpoint Drive, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Rex Hospital after a short illness.
Born July 22, 1950, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Somers, a daughter of the late S. Ray and Colleen Hager Ratliff, was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Kannapolis.
She began teaching in 1972 and was last employed as a social studies teacher at Martin Middle School, Raleigh. Throughout the years, she assisted students who were active with the North Carolina Student Council Organization.
Survivors include sister Tilda Ratliff, Kannapolis.

Ada C. Veach
COOLEEMEE — Ada C. Veach, 91, formerly of Cooleemee, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born May 31, 1910, in Davie County, Mrs. Veach was a daughter of the late Frank and Sinai Cleary. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Her husband,Dewey G. Veach, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Doris V. Williams, Winston-Salem; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Hazel Juanita Ruff Wellmon, 73, 2211 Brookview Ave., died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a short illness.
Born April 17, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wellmon, a daughter of the late Lucius M. and Etta J. Benfield Ruff, was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church.
She retired after 35 years from Fieldcrest Cannon, Plant 1 washcloth department.
A son, Danny Ray Wellmon, preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband James Grady Wellmon; sons Gerald Wellmon, Davidson, Douglas Wellmon, Kannapolis, and Christopher Wellmon, Rockwell; daughter Jeanne W.
