The funeral will be Friday for Clarence Bernard Davis, 49, 1314 Kenly St., who diedSunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several months of declining health and two days of serious illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1951, in Rowan County, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Nollie and Alice Johnson Davis. He was a 1970 graduate of North Rowan High School, Spencer.
Last employed at Isenhour Brick and Tile Co., he was a former member of Southern City Tabernacle AMEZion Church.

LEXINGTON — Arlie Banner Marion, 81, formerly of N.C. Highway 150, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Brian Center Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 29, 1922, in Dobson, Mr. Marion was a son of the late Jessie Banner and Maude Lawson Marion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Retired from United Furniture Co., he was a member of Pine Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Daisy Bean Marion; stepsons Charles and Randy Lee Bailey, both of Lexington, James Lee Bailey, Salisbury, and Mack Ray Bailey, Mocksville; stepdaughter Linda Marie Bailey, Mocksville; and eight step-grandchildren.

Virginia Deal Moore
WOODLEAF —The funeral will be Thursday for Virginia Deal Moore, 75, 1270 Parks Road, who died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at her home.
Born Sept. 17, 1926, in Rowan County, Mrs. Moore, a daughter of the late Carl L. and Pearl Carter Deal, was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a graduate of Woodleaf High School. She was employed with Templon Spinning Mill, Mooresville, for over 25 years.
Her husband,James Milton Moore, died Aug. 16, 1997, and a daughter, Carolyn Moore Atwell, died May 14, 1992.
Survivors include sons Carl G. Moore, Woodleaf, and James C. and Richard W. Moore, both of Cleveland; brother Charles Deal., Hobart, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Elsie Mae McLain Shepherd, 67, formerly of West D Street, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at High Point Regional Medical Center.
Born June 25, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Shepherd was a daughter of the late Ruben and Minnie Kirkland McLain. She was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. A nursing assistant, she was formerly employed at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital.
A daughter, Tamara Renee Shepherd, preceded her in death.

Leroy Tickle
KANNAPOLIS — Leroy Tickle, 81, formerly of 207 Fir Ave., died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at
W.G. “Bill” Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury, after several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 16, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Tickle was a son of the late Roy Daniel and Ethel Pittman Tickle. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1975, he retired after 18 years as a self-employed timber cutter. He attended God’s Church of Faith.
His wife, Sadie Swicegood Tickle, died Jan. 5, 1997.
Survivors include sons Michael and Randy Tickle, both of Kannapolis, and Pat Tickle, Concord; daughters Sandra
McGalliard, China Grove, and Tammy Williams, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

NEW LONDON — Betty Jean Herrin Tucker, 68, 110 N. Oak St., died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 17, 1933, in Stanly County, Mrs. Tucker, a daughter of the late Paul William and Ida Mae Hatley Herrin, was educated at Millingport School.
She retired after 28 years from Richfield Manufacturing, where she was a sewing machine operator.
Her husband, Hoyle Duncan Tucker, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughter Patsy Iossi, Spencer; son Tommy Tucker, Mount Pleasant; sister Jewell
Efird, Albemarle; brothers Norman Herrin, Alabama, and Rayvon Herrin, Charlotte; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Basil Wilson Jr.
William Basil Wilson Jr., 74 Salisbury, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at his home following a recent surgery.
Born Dec. 13, 1926, in Brunswick County, Mr. Wilson was a son of the late William Basil and Winifred Butler Wilson. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School and Motts Business College, Wilmington.
Employed with BellSouth for nearly 38 years, he retired as a manager in Gastonia. He was a manager in Salisbury from 1970-1982.
A member of First United Methodist Church and the Mr. and Mrs.Sunday School Class, he was past chairman of the administrative board. He was a member of Salisbury Rotary Club and was appointed a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation.
In 1977, he was president of Salisbury Sales and Marketing. He was president of the Salisbury Rowan Chamber of Commerce in 1978; president of the Salisbury/Rowan United Way in 1978; and secretary of Salisbury Rowan Merchants Association in 1976.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve for 17 years.
Survivors include wife Mildred Fishel Wilson, whom he married Oct. 25, 1952; son William B. “Bill” Wilson III, Washington, D.C.; daughters Ann W.
Savran, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jan W. LaRosa, Charlotte; brother Alan B. Wilson, Naples; and four grandchildren.

Flora Walters Wolfe
Flora Walters Wolfe, 91, formerly of Forestdale Drive, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare.
Born Dec. 14, 1909, in Lavonia, Ga., Mrs. Wolfe, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Marrett Walters, attended the Anderson, S.C., schools.
She was a homemaker and did clothing alterations in her home. She was employed part-time at Underwood’s and was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club.
A charter member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church, she was a member of the United Methodist Women, Circle 3 and the Adult Sunday School Class. She was the first recipient of the United Methodist Women membership pin.
Her husband, Robert McLain Wolf, died Nov. 13, 1972, and a son, Robert Edward Wolfe, died Nov. 9, 1993.
Survivors include daughter Julia Wolfe Thomas, Charlotte; sisters Willie W. Burdette and Gladys W. Hanes, both of Anderson, S.C., and Sarah W.
Feltman, Hartwell, Ga.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
