Otis O. Basinger

MOUNT ULLA —Otis O. Basinger, 94, Mount Ulla, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 8, 1907, in Mill Bridge, Mr. Basinger was a son of the late Charles Martin and Martha Plyler Basinger. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

A veteran, he received a Purple Heart after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a farmer and a logger.

His wife, Mabel Basinger, died in 1991.

He is survived by a nephew and a niece.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Launia N. Biggers

GOLD HILL — Launia Nance Biggers, 92, 15400 Short Cut Road, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury.

Born July 7, 1909, in Gaston County, Mrs. Biggers was a daughter of the late James M. and Julia Roseman Nance. She was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Charlotte.

A registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, she retired in 1971 as a supervisor on the East Wing. She was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church, Charlotte.

Her husband, Cecil W. Biggers, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Sam Biggers, Lake Wylie,S.C.; daughter Jane Biggers, Gold Hill; sisters Kathleen Starnes, Morganton, and Julia Lee Mullis, Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Victor Hall. Burial, Brookhill Cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: Bible Presbyterian Church, c/o Solomon Car Fund, 6237 Rumple Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.

 

Norma Boger

ROCKWELL — Norma Boger, 66, Rockwell, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Powles Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Clarence B. Davis

Clarence Bernard Davis, 49, 1314 Kenly St., died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after several months of declining health and two days of serious illness.

Richard C. Glascock

MOCKSVILLE —Richard Clyde Glascock, 81, Wilkesboro Street, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001)at his home.

Allene B. Hassell

Allene Brinkley Hassell, 99, Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare.

Alma T. Morgan

Alma Margaret Troutman Morgan, 85, Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 4, 1915, in Rowan County, Mrs. Morgan, a daughter of the late Maxwell “Mack” and Margaret Ellen Safrit Troutman, was a 1935 graduate of Granite Quarry High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Seasoned Saints.

She was also a member of Liberty Home Demonstration Club and received the 50 year award.

Her husband, Chester Forrest Morgan, died July 11, 1983.

Survivors include sons Jerry Dale Morgan,Salisbury, and Loy C. Morgan, Cape Carteret; daughter Phyllis M. Cornelison, Salisbury; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Lori Hefner and the Rev. Doug Hefner. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home,Rockwell. At other times, the family will be at the home of Phyllis M. Cornelison.

Memorials: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Preschool and Playground Equipment Fund, 2570 St. Peter’s Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

 

Erlene Wilson Roberts

MOCKSVILLE —Erlene Wilson Roberts, 79, Walt Wilson Road, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a lengthy illness.

Born June 6, 1922, in Davie County, Mrs. Roberts, a daughter of the late Walter Bynum and Ella Gabard Wilson, was a member of Turrentine Baptist Church. She was a legal secretary with Brock-McClamrock Attorneys at Law in Mocksville.

Survivors include husband William “Bill” O. Roberts; daughters Gay and Mary Roberts, Lisa Dixon and Kathy Whittaker, all of Mocksville; sisters Ruby Piper and Nellie Angell, both of Mocksville, and Ethel “Cricket” Poland, Rochester, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m., Wednesday, Turrentine Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Smith. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Davie Funeral Service.
