MOORESVILLE — Dr. J. David Alford, 63, Hampton Place, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at his home.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Roger Dale Connell II
ROCKWELL — Roger Dale Connell II, 35, 5830-B Highway 152 E., died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident.
Mr. Connell, born Sept. 7, 1966, in Cabarrus County, was a son of Roger Dale Connell I of Concord and the late Linda Mae Trexler Connell. Educated in the Kannapolis City Schools, he attended Holy Power Church. He was employed by World Custom Homes, Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by a son, Shane Moore Alexander.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include daughter Samantha Mae Connell, Salisbury; and son Roger Dale Connell III, Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Bill Cutshaw. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at their homes.
Pauline G. DeBerry
A memorial service will be held at a later date for Pauline Margaret Gauniel DeBerry, 63, Salisbury, who died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at her home.
Born March 15, 1938, in Baltimore, Md., Mrs. DeBerry was a daughter of Margaret Nellie Geisler Gauniel, Greensboro, and the late Paul William Gauniel. She was educated in the Anne Arundel County, Md., schools.
She was a homemaker. A foster mother for 41 years, she reared between 75 and 80 children.
Survivors include husband William Glenn DeBerry Jr., whom she married Sept. 24, 1960; sons Paul DeBerry, Linthicum,Md., and Tim DeBerry, Salisbury; daughters Tina and Billie Jo DeBerry, Amy Foster and Tonya Clark, all of Salisbury; brothers Paul August Gauniel, Baltimore, Md., and Larry Gene Gauniel, Delaware; sisters Alice Smith,Greensboro, Gertrude Trice, Baltimore, Md., and Margaret Daly and Shirley Pavlakos, both of Aurora; and eight grandchildren.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

Jonathan D. Gross
SPENCER — The funeral will be Sunday for Jonathan David Gross, 22, Spencer, who died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, after 18 months of declining health.
Born April 18, 1979, in Hagerstown, Md., Mr. Gross was the son of the Rev. Richard A. and Wanda Brown Gross of Spencer.
He was educated in the Washington County, Md., schools. A graduate of Faith Christian Academy, Martinsburg, W.Va., he received an associate degree as a computer systems specialist from York Technical Institute, York, Pa.
Employed as a computer systems specialist at Pillowtex’s Data Center in Kannapolis, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. He was active in the Graduate and Career Bible Study Fellowship.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include maternal grandmother Jeanette McDaniel Brown, Woodleaf; and paternal grandparents Howard and Audrey Eichelberger Gross, Joppa,Md.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Oakdale Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Kenneth Walters of Rowan Baptist Association. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial at Needmore Baptist Church cemetery, Woodleaf.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury. At other times the family will be at the home in Spencer.

Evelyn Fielder Jordan
KANNAPOLIS — Evelyn Fielder Jordan, 68, Kannapolis, formerly of Rural Retreat, Va., died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at her home.
Mrs. Jordan was a daughter of the late Glen and Blanche Harrington Fielder. A member of Shadybrook Baptist Church and a former member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Cedar Springs, Va., she was pianist at both churches and at Pleasant Avenue Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include husband Arthur L. Jordan; daughter Carolyn L. Collao,Miami,Fla.; sons William D. Langston, Gold Hill, and Kenley A. Langston, Rural Retreat, Va.; brother James Fielder, Rural Retreat, Va.; stepdaughter Katie Robbins, Rockingham; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Asbury United Methodist Church, Cedar Springs, Va. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

James Everett Kesler
The funeral will be Sunday for James Everett Kesler, 51, Bringle Ferry Road, who died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of serious illness.
He was the son of Willie Pearl Gaines Mills of Salisbury and had seven grandchildren among his survivors.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Robinson and Steve A. Kesler. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

RURAL HALL —Dennis Leon Stein, 54, 6565 University Parkway, father of Erika Leslie, Albemarle, died Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
