Walter Lee Goodman
Walter Lee Goodman, 71, 132 Willow St., died Friday (Oct. 12, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born Jan. 4, 1930, in Rowan County, Mr. Goodman was a son of the late Jay Elwood and Maude Davis Goodman. He graduated from Woodleaf schools.
Mr. Goodman retired from the Salisbury Police Department in 1971, where he had worked for 12 years.
He attended Landmark Church and Rowan Christian Assembly.
Survivors include wife Helen Ridenhour Goodman, whom he married on July 19, 1952; daughter Doris G. Bowman, Salisbury; brothers Arthur E. Goodman, Landis, and Jay W. Goodman, Charleston, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 4 p.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Benny Hillard and the Rev. Glynn Dickens. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: The family will receive friends following the memorial service Monday.

ROCKWELL — James Baxter “Big Jim” Howell, 65, died Saturday (Oct. 13, 2001) at his residence.

Julia Byers Ijames
STATESVILLE — Julia Byers Ijames, 85, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Iredell Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Services: 3 p.m. today, Clement Grove Church of God in Mocksville, conducted by Elder Ernest Ijames. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 2 p.m. today at the church.

Nellie Park Overcash
Nellie Overcash Park Overcash, 85, Salisbury, died Saturday (Oct. 13, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Home after three years of declining health and three weeks of serious illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Overcash was a daughter of the late Manlius Lee and Maggie Martha Lee Deal Overcash. She was educated in the Parks School.
She retired after 37 years with Cannon Mills Plant 1, wash cloth department. She was a member of Organ Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Milas Hurley Park, in 1962, and her second husband, Jacob Odell Overcash, in 1972.
Survivors include son Bobby Lee Park, Salisbury; daughters Allerid Geraldine Park
Josey, Salisbury, Martha Halena “Tookie”Park Heilig, Rockwell, and Linda Rebecca Park Thomas, Faith; brothers Howard and Clarence

Shive, Belmont, Zelia O. Padgett and Claudette O. Brown, both of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Jason Reid Whitley
Jason Reid Whitley, 26, of Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001).
Born March 21, 1975, in Rowan County, Mr. Whitley was a son of Gale Graham Stroudt and Charles Glenn Whitley Jr. , both of Salisbury.
He was educated at North Rowan High School and was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brother, Charles Glenn Whitley III, Salisbury; stepfather Ervin Stroudt, Salisbury; stepmother Liona Whitley, Salisbury; grandparents Charles and Peggy Whitley, Salisbury; and great-grandmother Gladys Montieth, Salisbury.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Monday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Conder.
