ALBEMARLE — Blanche Juanita Lowder Almond, 86, 27799 Hatley Farm Road, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial, Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

Charles N. Collins
CHINA GROVE — Charles Newton Collins, 92, 425 Collins Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at his home.
Born Sept. 15, 1909, in Forest City, Mr. Collins was a son of the late Claude Newton and Sarah Jane Huntley Collins. He was a graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury.
He worked in the Naval Mine Depot at Newport News, Pa., while serving with the U.S. Navy during World WarII.
He retired as a loom fixer after 55 years with Cannon Mills. He was also an electrician.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in the Democratic Party in Rowan County.
His first wife, Edith W.Collins, died in 1988.
Survivors include wife Gertrude Rolfe Collins; son Charles Collins Jr., China Grove; stepson Lawrence Collins,Lexington; daughters Doris Archie and Brenda Gibbons, both of Southmont; sister Anna Lou Guthrie, Concord; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wilson. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

G.G. ‘Pete’ Harwood
ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for G.C. “Pete” Harwood, 74, Rockwell, who died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 18, 1927, in Stanly County, Mr. Harwood was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Evie Sides Harwood. He was educated in the Rockwell schools.
In 1972, he retired from Rockwell Radio and Electric, where he worked as a plumber. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include wife Ruby Jean Kesler Harwood, whom he married Oct. 20, 1948; son Alan Lane Harwood, Salisbury; daughters Deborah Earnhardt, Jacksonville, Fla., Julie H. Beaver, York, S.C., and Linda Kluttz, Salisbury; brother Willis Harwood, Mount Pleasant; sister Velma Kluttz, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Immanuel Lutheran Church. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

KANNAPOLIS — Clyde R. Miller, 68, 422 Lakeshore Place, Concord, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Paul M. Morgan, 76, Salisbury, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Lillian S. Peeler
The funeral will be Monday for Lillian Shankle Peeler, 87, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, after a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 13, 1913, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Peeler, a daughter of the late Brooks Benjamin and Victoria Munday
Shankle, was educated in the Cabarrus County schools. She retired from Guye’s of Salisbury and was earlier employed at The Gold Shop.
She was a member of First United Church of Christ and Salisbury Moose Lodge, where she was active and served all offices of the lodge. She was also a past state deputy grand region.
Survivors include husband Burton Peeler, whom she married Dec. 10, 1938; and sister Clara Tanner, Salisbury.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Crook, pastor, First United Church of Christ. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Graveside rites by Salisbury Moose Lodge 900.

Ronnie Truett Smith Jr., 23, Salisbury, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at his home.

Dorothy A. Taylor
KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Alexander Taylor, 87, 4876 Boy Scout Camp Road, formerly of Sparta, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a year of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born March 6, 1914, in Ashe County, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late H.K. and Vannie Orsborne Miller. She retired after 35 years from Cannon Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman Wiley Alexander and Robert Taylor, and a son, D.Kenneth Alexander.
Survivors include son Bobby Glenn Alexander, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alma Woodruff
COOLEEMEE —Alma Woodruff, 94, formerly of Cooleemee, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie after a brief period of illness.
A native of Davie County, Mrs. Woodruff was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rebecca Ellis Young.
Her husband, Albert Woodruff, died Sept. 30, 1982.
Survivors include daughter Audrey Petteway, Waterbury, Conn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
