William Carlton Beck

LEXINGTON — William Carlton Beck, 91, Harvell Road, Stanfield, formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Kershaw County Medical Center after an extended illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Beck’s Lutheran Church. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by VFWPost 3074.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.

Charles N. Collins

CHINA GROVE — Charles Newton Collins, 92, 425 Collins Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at his home.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Sherry Lynne Deaton

KANNAPOLIS — Sherry Lynne Deaton, 46, 407 Triece St., died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at her home.

Born Jan. 19, 1955, in Cabarrus County, Miss Deaton was a daughter of Gladys Anderson Deaton, Kannapolis, and the late William Howard “Moon” Deaton. She was a 1973 graduate of A.L.Brown High School and a 1975 graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Following 15 years employment with Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte, she next worked with Sanger Clinic, Charlotte, as a pacemaker nurse. She was later employed with Medtronic Inc., Charlotte, visiting clinics throughout the state programming pacemakers.

She was formerly affiliated with Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include brother William “Bill” Deaton Jr., Charlotte; and sister Anne C. Deaton, Charlotte.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Saturday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Richard Rhoades and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Gladys Anderson Deaton, 501 Rogers Lake Road.

Kathleen H. Dyson

MOCKSVILLE —The funeral will be Friday for Kathleen H. Dyson, 89, Greenhill Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Jan. 26, 1912, in Davie County, Mrs. Dyson was a daughter of the late W. Henry and Annis Angell Howard. She was a homemaker and a member of Eatons Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Alvin H. Dyson; sons Benny and Darrell Dyson, both of Harmony; brother Waymoth Howard, Jonesville; sisters Henrietta H. O’Shea, Washington, D.C., Minnie L. Barnhardt, Mocksville, and Priscilla Howard, Elkin; and one grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steve Hedgecock. Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

 

G. C. ‘Pete’ Harwood

ROCKWELL — G.C. “Pete” Harwood, 74, Rockwell, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Myrtle H. Herlocker

ALBEMARLE — Myrtle Leona Harwood Herlocker, 86, 16549 N.C. 73 Highway, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Saturday, Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Hartsell Funeral Home.

Robert Norris Jeffrey

BADIN — Robert Norris Jeffrey, 92, 40 Elm St., died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at his home.

Born April 16, 1909, in Raleigh, Mr. Jeffrey was a son of the late James Norris and Rosa Della Durham Jeffrey.

He was a principal at Badin School from 1957-1962 and principal, teacher and coach at North Stanly High School from 1963-1994. The school’s football stadium was named in his honor in September 1985.

He joined First Presbyterian Church in 1943. In 1957, he returned to the church from Goldsboro and remained at the church until his death. He was an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher.

In 1995, Jeffrey was inducted into the Stanly County Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by wife Ida Laura Boddie Jeffrey.

Survivors include sons Norris Boddie Jeffrey, Silver Springs, Md., and Weldon Robert Jeffrey, Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 4 p.m. Sunday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Wray.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Walter Ray Karriker

MOORESVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Walter Ray Karriker, 91, Wilkinson Road, a native of Rowan County, who died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1910, Mr. Karriker was a son of the late Robert Locke and Ila Mae Karriker Karriker. He was a machinist for Crompton-Knowles and was a retired farmer. He was a lifetime member Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, China Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Mae Henry Karriker, and a son, William Ray Karriker.

Survivors include sons Robert Walter Karriker, Landis, Kermit Kenneth, Richard Gray and Eben Pressly Karriker, all of Mooresville, and James Lee Karriker, Kannapolis; daughters Sara Katherine Harless, Columbus, Ga., and Margaret Sue Huffman, Mooresville; brother Robert Kenneth Karriker, Mooresville; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. G. Wayne Sipe. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Gyeong ‘Sook’ Kim

KANNAPOLIS —Gyeong “Sook” Kim, 33, 2019 Townview Drive, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Southern Regional Medical Center, Riverdale,Calif., after an extended illness.

Born June 22, 1969, in South Korea, Ms. Kim was a daughter of Hyoung Duck Kim and Boo Ja Byun Kim of Kannapolis. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sisters Oak Slawson, Kannapolis, and Jennifer Morgan, Concord; and brother Yoon Kim, South Korea.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dale Tanner and the Rev. Sei Hun Kim. Burial will be at a later date at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Boo Ja and Hyoung Duck Kim, 2019 Townview Drive.

 

Willie Leach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Willie Leach, 92, Hartsville, brother of Carrie Leach Gaston, Salisbury, N.C., died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001).

Services: 3:30 p.m. Saturday,Young and Young Funeral Home. Burial in Hartsville.

 

Billy ‘Joe’ Michael

LEXINGTON — Billy “Joe” Michael, 67, Lexington, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001).

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Donald K. Miller

MOCKSVILLE — Donald Keith Miller, 46, Fairfield Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Nov. 16, 1954, in Davie County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Doyle Julius and Patsy Gail Lyerly Miller. He was a Baptist.

A commercial sheet metal/mechanic, he was employed with Miller Sheet Metal Co.

Survivors include wife Scottie Rhinehart Miller; son Brian Miller; sister Shelia Miller, Mocksville; and half sister Patsy L. Simmons, Raleigh.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Davie Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Durham. Burial, Dutchman Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Mildred D. Overcash

KANNAPOLIS — Mildred Dalton Overcash, 78, 124 Tanglewood Drive, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Rockingham County, Mrs. Overcash was a daughter of the late Lacey and Annie Edwards Williams Dalton. In 1974, she retired from Cone Mills, where she worked as a winder.

She was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, the Julian Bost Circle and the Happy Seniors.

Survivors include husband Max Overcash; son Demps Brawley, Elken, Md.; brother James Lee Williams; sisters Josey Young, Landis, and Myrtle Lowder, China Grove; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Howard Baker. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation:7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Tanglewood Drive.
