Carl Wriston Adcock
KANNAPOLIS — Carl Wriston Adcock, 92, 514 Plymouth St., died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) at Brian Center, Monroe, after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 21, 1908, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Adcock was a son of the late Alex Levander and Martha Eugene Mullis Adcock. He retired in 1975 after 45 years from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 4, card room.
A member of First Baptist Church, he was active in the counting and property committees and was involved in vacation Bible school throughout the years.
His wife, Hallie Moore Adcock, died May 13, 1999.
Survivors include son Alex Levander Adcock, Brevard; sisters Gladys Underwood and Della Rogers, both of Monroe; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Paul Haywood and the Rev. Norman Brisson. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum.

LEXINGTON — James “Jimmy”Woodrow Hopkins, 45, Raleigh Road, died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) at his home after six months of illness.
Born May 22, 1956, in Guilford County, Mr. Hopkins was the son of Wilda Louise Segers, Salisbury, and the late James Luther Hopkins. He was a self-employed truck driver and attended Love of God Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Michelle Mason Hopkins; sons Davin Taylor Hopkins, of the home, and J.D. Hopkins, Greensboro; daughter Lynn Wicker, Welcome; brothers Johnny Lee Hopkins, Archdale, Randy Lee Hopkins, Salisbury, and Gerald Little,Darlington, S.C.; sisters Joyce Brown, Archdale, and Faye McDaniels, Thomasville; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Vanessa Hudson Moon, 46, 501 May St., died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) at her home after three weeks of illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1954, in South Carolina, Mrs. Moon was a daughter of the late Worthy and Frances Overcash Hudson.
Survivors include husband Ed Moon; three sisters; and one brother.

Helen Gibson Owen
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral was this morning for Helen Gibson Owen, 80, 103 Carriage House Drive, who died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) while visiting friends in Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 16, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Owen was a daughter of the late Archibald and Pearl Gibson. She was educated at Methodist Children’s Home, High Point, and was a 1942 graduate of High Point College.
A longtime member of Midway United Methodist Church, she was in the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She volunteered with the Women’s Auxiliary at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, for 20 years and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include husband of 54 years Howard “Rip” Owen; sons James D. Owen, Weddington, Howard W. Owen II, Graham, and William H. Owen, Concord; sisters Johnsie Caton, Concord, and Joyce Furr, Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at Midway United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mickey Moree and the Rev. Billy Rintz officiated. Burial was at Carolina Memorial Park.

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Thursday for Lorene Wilhelm Swink, 69, 249 Haven Way, who died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Rowan County, Mrs. Swink, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Yates Wilhelm, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Jesus Life Ministries, Kannapolis.
Survivors include daughter Patricia Swink Boulding, Salisbury; sister Margie Bostian, Salisbury; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Belle Tate
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Mary Belle Stinson Tate, 70, 9527 Devers Way, No. D, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Select Specialty Hospital.
Born Oct. 15, 1930, in Cleveland, N.C., Mrs. Tate was a daughter of the late Gus and Ella Mae Avery Stinson. She was site manager at Mount Zion Apartments.
Survivors include husband Carl F. Tate; sons Randy and Ricky Stinson; stepson Carl Tate Jr.; daughters Anita Hovis, Cleveland, N.C., Patricia Turner and Traci Williams; stepdaughters Pamela K. Corley, Cynthia D. Tate-Gardner and Karen D. Tate; 28 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Roland Taylor
The funeral will be Friday for John Roland Taylor, 78, Hidden Creek Circle, who died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at his home.
Born Feb. 25, 1923, in Efland, Mr. Taylor was a son of the late Edward Stephen and Myrtle Smith Taylor. During World War II, he served overseas with the U.S. Army in the 85th Division of the 310th Combat Engineers Unit.
Employed by Southern Railroad for 43 years, he was a supervisor in the agent freight hauling system. He was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and the Men’s Club of the church, and was a member of the building committee. He was a past member of Salisbury Lions Club.
Survivors include wife Edna Holt Taylor, whom he married Aug. 31, 1943; son John Edward Taylor, Rutherfordton; daughters Linda T. Roueche, Salisbury, and Karen T. Reichard, State College, Pa.; sister Doris Robinson,Efland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Milford Hills United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Neill Shaw. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park. Military honors, Rowan County Veterans Council.
