Mary Bell Bush

LEXINGTON — Mary Bell Bush, 66, Frank Hulin Road, Petersville Community, died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001) at her home.

Born June 30, 1935, in Rowan County, Ms. Bush was a daughter of the late Elisha and Helen Johnson Bush.

She retired as a cook from Bill’s Truck Stop, where she worked for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Senior and Gospel choirs and the Kitchen Committee of Buncombe Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Phillip Gene and Harry Lee Bush, both of Salisbury, and Richard Lewis and Henry Frank Bush, both of Lexington; brother Emmanuel Bush, Lexington; sister Genola Bush Hairston, Lexington; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Buncombe Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Randall Baldwin. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 3-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home. Remains may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morrison Studevent Funeral Home, Lexington.

 

William H. Cashion

KANNAPOLIS — William Howard Cashion, 84, 208 W. 21st St., died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 1, 1917, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Cashion was a son of the late J. Will and Clara Corn Cashion. He retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 Weave Room and the Research and Development Department after 50 years. He was a member of Kannapolis First Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Ruby Nance Cashion; son Larry H. Cashion, Huntersville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Norman Brisson. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the 208 W. 21st St. home.

Gertrude M. Fisher

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Tuesday for Gertrude M. Fisher, 73, Rockwell, who died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.

Born Jan. 11, 1928, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Fisher was a daughter of the late Jessie Ray and Dorothy Gray Mauldin. Educated inCabarrus County schools, she was a homemaker and member of China Grove Church of God.

Survivors include husband John Samuel Fisher, whom she married May 21, 1946; son John Samuel Fisher Jr., Rockwell; daughter Judy F. Wyrick, China Grove; brothers Gene and Leonard “Buck” Mauldin, both of Concord, and Ira Mauldin, Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m.Tuesday, Powles Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Roger Lunsford, pastor of China Grove Church of God, and the Rev. Joyce Miles. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family will be at the home in Rockwell the rest of the time.

Rev. Elijah Flowers Jr.

MOCKSVILLE — The Rev. Elijah Daniel “E.D.” Flowers Jr., 80, Murphy Road, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at Davis Regional Medical Center, Statesville.

Born Jan. 26, 1921, in Wake County, the Rev. Flowers was a son of the late Maggie Jackson and Elijah Daniel Flowers.

A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he graduated from Wake Forest College in 1950 and was a member of the first graduating class at Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1954. He was a retired Baptist minister who had served many churches throughout North Carolina.

Survivors include wife Ellen King Flowers; sons Eddie Flowers, Durham, and Charles Flowers, Bethlehem; brother Paul Flowers, Carrboro; sisters Nell Cone, Hickory, Irene Barnes, Oklahoma, Ruby Washburn, Lewisburg, and Emily Parker, Asheville; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Blaise Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Sellers. Burial, church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Service.

MOCKSVILLE — Willie E. Grimes, 75, Hospital Street, died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) at Davie Place.

Kenneth R. Hatley

STANFIELD — Kenneth Richard Hatley, 68, 19863 No View Road, father of Pat Whitley of Richfield, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at his home.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, West Oakboro Baptist Church. Burial, Ridgecrest Cemetery, Ridgecrest.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family will be at the 19863 No View Road home.

Viola B. Hedrick

LEXINGTON — Viola Blanche Beck Hedrick, 89, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Sunbridge Care &Rehabilitaiton.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: 3-4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of a son at 194 Hollyberry Lane.

 

Latish Lacal Ingram

Latish Lacal “Tisha” Ingram, 30, 715 Hall St., died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a serious illness.

Born Sept. 29, 1971, in Salisbury, Ms. Ingram was a daughter of the late Milded Elaine Ingram.

She attended Salisbury High School and graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She was last employed by V.F. Wears, previously Lee Jeans, in Mocksville.

Survivors include fiance Kevin Waller, Salisbury; son DeMario Ingram, Salisbury; daughter Jessica Ingram, Salisbury; brother Tim Ingram, Charlotte; sister Khalila Ingram, Salisbury.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Rose Massey Keith

Rose Massey Keith, 93, 910 W. Horah St., died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare. She had been in declining health for several years.

Born March 22, 1908, in Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. Keith was a daughter of the late Isaac George and Rachel Hopper Massey.

Educated in the public schools in Rock Hill, she was a retired domestic worker.

Survivors include sister Nannie Crockett, Salisbury.

The family will be at the home of nephew Melvin Massey, 910 W. Horah St.

Georgie Reid Myers

LEXINGTON — Georgie Rebecca Reid Myers, 82, South N.C. Highway 150, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at her home.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Nathan T. Snider. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Davidson Funeral Home.

Ruby Dennis Raper

CHINA GROVE — Ruby Olena Dennis Raper, 80, 1055 Patterson St., died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Raper was a daughter of the late Eddie Harrison and Effie Mae Lowder Dennis.

A graduate of Spencer High School, she was a homemaker and partner in Raper’s Inc. She had taught the Brinkley-James Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of China Grove since 1970 and was church clerk for 20 years. She was first Christian Mother of the Year in 1979, secretary of Oasis Senior Adults, First Deaconess and Bible teacher for the Bible Study Team. She also served on two pastor-search committees.

Survivors include husband Clyde Wilford Raper, whom she married on July 4, 1941; sons Dennis Clyde Raper, China Grove, and Dewey Edward Raper, Danville, Va.; daughters Sylvia R. Watson, Stanfield, Teresa R. Collins, China Grove, and Mary Ellen Raper, Long Beach; sister Julia Wilson, China Grove; 25 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. today, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wilson and the Rev. Ed Daniels. Entombment, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-4 this afternoon at the church.

Memorials: First Baptist Church of China Grove, General Fund, Box 99, China Grove NC 28023.

George Allen Sims

MONROE — George Allen Sims, 85, 5608 Lander Benton Road, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.

Born April 13, 1916, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Sims was a son of the late Jack Abraham and Kate Whitley Sims. He was retired from Kates Machinery, Charlotte, and attended First Foursquare Church, Concord. He was also a Mason.

His wife, Frances Ashby Sims, died in 1970.

Survivors include daughter Pat Sims Bowling, Monroe; son Gary Allen Sims, Concord; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Burris. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
