Curtis Ned Barringer

Curtis Ned Barringer, 66, of Salisbury, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born on July 1, 1935, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Hazel Ross Chamberline and Lee Carl Chamberline.

Mr. Barringer served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Granite Knitwear in Granite Quarry after more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Correll Barringer.

Survivors include three sons, Curtis Shawn Barringer, Salisbury, Mark Stephen Barringer, San Diego, Calif., and Stephen Anthony Barringer of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Susan B. Hoyt of Tampa, Fla; and one granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, graveside at Liberty United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Donald S. Wagner.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, at the home of a son, Curtis S. Barringer, 225 Stone Road, Salisbury.

 

Bertha Mae Brown

BALTIMORE, Md. —Bertha Mae Scott Brown of Baltimore died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001 in a Baltimore hospital.

She was born in East Spencer, N.C., a daughter of the late Grace Young and Willie Cranford Sr.

Survivors include a brother, Willie Cranford Jr. of Salisbury, N.C.

A memorial services was held Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001) at Joseph Brown Funeral Home in Baltimore.

 

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Dancy

KANNAPOLIS — Robert L. “Bob” Dancy, 78, of 210 Northcrest St., died Thursday, (Oct. 4, 2001) at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

Born on July 15, 1923, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Robert L. Dancy Sr. and Kate Dancy Mann.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was self-employed doing bookkeeping and taxes.

Mr. Dancy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge and Cabarrus Shrine Club.

His first wife, Louise, and his second wife, Gladys, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Templeton Dancy; a son, Larry Dancy of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Mary Hare of Kannapolis; and three grandsons.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Foster; interment at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in China Grove.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the service; at other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Bethpage United Methodist Church, 109 Fellowship Ave., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081; or the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.

 

Joanna B. Elmore

KANNAPOLIS —Joanna Basinger Elmore, 74, of 2126 S. Main St., died Friday, (Oct. 5, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is handling arrangements.

 

J.C. Herring

CONCORD — J.C. Herring, 77, of 4201 Sapp Road, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

McKibbin infant

Ten-week-old John Alexander McKibbin, son of Amy Childress McKibbin and Michael A. McKibbin of 200 Mitchell Ave., died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

He was born on July 24, 2001, in Salisbury.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are grandparents Connie Childress of Graham, Thomas and Linda Childress of Burlington, Dr. David McKibbin of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Carol McKibbin of Lincoln, Neb.; and great-grandparents Aline and Jim Infantino of Florida, Marjorie T. Childress of Graham, Calvin McKibbin of Iowa, and J. Eugene P. Jorgensen of Lincoln, Neb.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday memorial service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Marcus B. Hovis, associate minister.

Visitation: Will follow memorial service.

Memorials: Ronald McDonald House, 419 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

 

John H. Miller Jr.

KANNAPOLIS — John Hedrick Miller Jr,. 64, 1414 Birch St., died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born on Jan. 25, 1937, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late John Hedrick Miller Sr. and Lillian Atwell Miller.

He was retired from Gulledge Building Supply, Kannapolis.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Concord.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Simmons Miller; four sons, Barry Miller of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ricky Seymour of Rockwell, Randy Seymour of Statesville, Ronnie Seymour of Kannapolis; two brothers, David Miller of Landis and James Miller of Mooresville; two sisters, Betty McDaniels and Lois Jones, both of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, Concord, with the Rev. Harry “Trooper” Ferguson; burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Memorials: New Hope Baptist Church, 555 Neisler Road, Concord, N.C. 28025.

 

Louise J. Pennell

KANNAPOLIS — Mrs. Louise Johnson Pennell, 85, 318 W. 22nd St., died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at her home.

Born on May 24, 1916, in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the late Peter E. Johnson and Blanche Echerd Johnson.

She was retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1.

Mrs. Pennell was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she had been active in the choir and the children’s Sunday school department.

Her husband, Fred A. Pennell, died in 1993.

Survivors include daughters Kay Hallman of Kannapolis and Carol Irene Jones, of the home; a sister, Kathryn Bowman of Taylorsville; three brothers, Alonzo Ben Johnson of Hixson Tenn., Lex Johnson of Taylorsville, and Phil Johnson of Key Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stan Welch; burial in Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The remainder of the time, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 2204 Summitt Ave., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.

 

Robert Lee Walls

Robert Lee Walls, 83, of 33 Sweet Apple Lane, Winder, Ga., and formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at his residence.

Summersett Funeral Home is handling arrangements, which are incomplete.
