Edward L. Byerly

LEXINGTON — Edward Leonard Byerly, 81, Michael Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at Sunbridge Nursing Home.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial, Sandy Creek Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.

Richard K. Carrigan

The funeral will be Sunday for Richard Kenneth Carrigan, 92, South Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at his home.

Born in Salisbury, Mr. Carrigan was a son of the late John Chalmers and Nettie Hart Carrigan. He was educated in the Rowan County schools. In 1932, he graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

During World War II, he was a lieutenant commander supply officer with the U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Guadalcanal.

He retired as senior executive vice president of the Western Region of the W.T. Grant retail company. He was an active member of Halifax River Yacht Club and Oceanside CountryClub.

His first wife, Naomi Ware Rendleman Carrigan, died Aug. 14, 1990.

Survivors include wife Dorothy Kennedy Carrigan; son Richard Hart Carrigan, Malibu, Calif.; daughter Emily Carrigan Seigler, Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons William Kennedy IV, Oklahoma City, Okla., and John S. Kennedy, Point Pleasant, Pa.; stepdaughter Dorothy K. Schedel, Naples, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Thyatira Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Sandra Kern, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Stephen A. Moss, retired minister. Burial, church cemetery.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Emma Massey Corry

EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Emma Massey Corry, 87, formerly of 938 Cedar St., who died Saturday (Nov. 24, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Born March 4, 1914, in Lancaster, S.C., Mrs. Corry, a daughter of the late Lee and Mary White Massey, was educated in the Lancaster, S.C., schools. She was a member of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church.

Survivors include brothers Iria Massey, Vanwyck, S.C., Edward Massey and Jonathan Limoua, Philadelphia, Pa., and Wilton Massey, Lancaster, S.C.; and sisters Dorothy M. Clyburn, Lancaster, S.C., and Maggie J. Campbell, Philadelphia,Pa.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Paul Jones. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Zelma Linker Eagle

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Zelma Linker Eagle, 83, 205 Prince St., who died Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born July 6, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Linker was a daughter of the late Robert “Bob” and Ruth Trexler Linker. She retired after many years from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 wash cloth department.

A member of Center Grove Lutheran Church for 49 years, she taught the Youth Sunday school class.

Her husband, Claude Monroe Eagle, died in 1972.

Survivors include daughter Claudine E. Price,Kannapolis; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Center Grove Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Zachariah Harris III. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Prince Street.

Rosa Crisp Huffman

LANDIS — Rosa Lee Crisp Huffman, 94, Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Wilmington, formerly of Landis, died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001)

Shakerra McIntyre

CONCORD — Shakerra McIntyre, 17, 324 Lincolnton St., died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born April 29, 1984, in Cabarrus County, Miss McIntyre was a daughter of Robin Young Booker and the Rev. Walter McIntyre.

A senior at Mount Pleasant High School, Mount Pleasant, she was a member of the girls basketball team and the Step Team.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter KeAsia McIntyre; sisters Lisa McIntyre, Charlotte, and Mikkierra Peck, Salisbury; brothers Bernard Wilkes Jr. and Jerod, Rashaad and Shorod Young, all of Salisbury, and Marcus and Marguise, Charlotte; stepfather Willie Hooker, Salisbury; grandmother Carolyn Young; grandfather Thomas Young; and great-grandparents Fannie Leach and Frances Bradshaw, Concord.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Mount Calvary Holy Church, conducted by Elder T.W. Bolton, pastor, Silver Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Burial, Rutherford Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Friday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home on Lincolnton Street.

Walker’s Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge.

 

Garland E. Nance

LEXINGTON — Garland Elston Nance, 82, Thurman Beck Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at Lexington Health Care after five months of illness.

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park. Military rites by Fort Bragg.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.At other times, the family will be at the home of son Ronnie Nance, 5032 E. Old Hwy. 64, Lexington.

Clinton Leon Simpson

Clinton Leon Simpson, 37, 1424 Bringle Ferry Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2001) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

MOORESVILLE — Robert Andrew “R.A.” White III, 62, Mooresville, died Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at his home.

ALBEMARLE — Mildred Ann Morris Wilkinson, 73, 100 Creekridge Circle, Apt. 1-B, died Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2001) at N.C. Lutheran Nursing Homes Inc.
