Something that disturbed me greatly was on the TV news recently. The more I think about it, the more I feel I have to speak out.
The rape of an 18-year-old female was reported. It seems she had left a bar where she had been drinking. A male gave her a ride and then sexually assaulted her. She got away from him, went home and told her mother the next day.
The reporter interviewed another young woman in the area, asking her about under-age drinking. She replied, “There ain’t nutin’ to do but party.”
How wrong she is! She could read a book (the Bible would be a good start), visit a shut-in or her grandparents, do volunteer work, run an errand for someone, share a meal with a friend — she might even cook it. She could find a quiet place and reflect on her life.
I suggest that she find something to do besides “party” with alcohol and illegal drugs. Worse things than rape can occur under such circumstances. Murders that are alcohol and drug-related happen every day. Alcohol and drug abuse ruin the lives of those who use them, as well as the lives of family members, including children. Many fatal auto accidents are the result of impaired drivers.
Yes, I am an old fogy, 72 years old. I have had fun all my life, without the benefit of alcohol of drugs.
God bless all you young folks, and may he help you make the right decisions for your life.
