Another person has told sheriff’s investigators he was molested by a China Grove man already accused of sexually assaulting 11 boys.
William David Smith, 53, has been in the Rowan County Jail since his initial arrest in February.
Since then, detectives have filed 42 charges against him, including four in the latest case.
Sheriff’s Lt. John Sifford said the most recent charges were filed after the victim came forward and told investigators Smith molested him when he was 12 years old. Sifford said the victim, who is an adult now, met Smith through church.
“At one point in time, the victim was working on a school project, and he (the victim) didn’t have a computer so he (Smith) let him use his computer in his home,” Sifford said.
That is when the victim says Smith molested him.
Investigators added two counts each of taking indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sex offense.
Sheriff’s Department investigators say more victims are coming forward, but there may still be more out there.
Investigators are still trying to determine where Smith worked from the time of the first incident, over 30 years ago, to when he took a job with the Cabarrus County school system in the cafeteria from 1980 to 1981 and as a custodian from 1983 to 1989.
He worked at Winecoff and R. Brown McAllister elementary schools.
Sifford said Smith also gained the trust of his victims as a BoyScout leader and through his membership at Landis Baptist Church.
Smith’s current bond is set at $100,000, and his court date is pending.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who was a victim to call Detective Linda Porter at 704-638-3096.
