John Belmont

John Belmont, 92, Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, died Monday (Nov. 26, 2001) at the nursing center.

Clifton Chambers

GRANITE QUARRY — Clifton Chambers, 85, Pine Drive, died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home, Fayetteville, after several years of declining health.

Born Dec. 28, 1915, in Burke County, Mr. Chambers, a son of the late Ernest and Mary Lou Kincaid Chambers, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

He retired as a re-couper from Southern Railway. He later worked at Paris Bakery and retired from Bamby (Sunbeam)Bakery.

A member of Antioch Baptist Church, he was in the Male Choir and a former trustee. He was also a member of AFL-CIO Union.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107.

His wife, Eloise Jackson Chambers, died in 1990.

Survivors include daughter Mary Frances C. Sifford, China Grove; sisters Gladys Kincaid and Elvia Jones, both of Morganton, Mable Oglesby, Granite Quarry, Sadie Carter and Cora Mae Harper, both of Beaver Fall, Pa., Inez Hill, Baltimore, Md., and Mary Jean Richardson, Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mitchell and Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

Betty Seymour Dodd

Betty Seymour Dodd, 80, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Louis N. Gosselin

KANNAPOLIS — Louis Nelson Gosselin, 85, 1285 West A St. died Friday (Nov. 23, 2001).

Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Cherokee County, Mr. Gosselin was a son of the late Nelson and Emma Gregory Gosselin. He was educated in the Buncombe County schools and attended Western Carolina University.

A veteran, he retired with the rank of 1st Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corp after 31 years of active and reserve service. He served during World War II at Pearl Harbor and the Southwest Pacific Islands.

He retired from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, which he joined in 1947 as a highway patrolman. He remained with the patrol until 1953, when he joined the License and Theft Division and was promoted to assistant district supervisor of District 5, an area that included 17 counties. He also served the department as an inspector and a district supervisor.

He was a member of the Bald Creek Masonic Lodge 397 and the Scottish Rite and was a Shriner.

His wife, Rachel Rice Gosselin, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son, Louis Gosselin Jr., Salisbury; a grandson; and a great grandson.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m., Tuesday, West Memorial Park, Weaverville. Masonic rites by Bald Creek Masonic Lodge 397.

Thomas Oliver Joyner

GARNER — Thomas Oliver “Tommy” Joyner, 91, 219 Page Road, formerly of the Oakwood area in Raleigh, died Thursday (Nov. 22, 2001) at his home. He is the father of Debra J. Binkley, Cleveland.

Services: 2 today, Bryan-Lee Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

 

Sherry M. Middleton

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Sherry McGuinn Middleton, 33, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Nov. 22, 2001) at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, S.C., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in which her mother and stepfather also died.

Born Jan. 29, 1968, in Tyron, Mrs. Middleton was a daughter of Randy McGuinn, and the late Susan Hisey McGuinn Nichols. She was educated in the South Amboy, N.J., schools, and was a graduate of Martin High School in Stuart, Fla.

She was formerly employed with Mask Tank Cleaning Co., Charlotte, and attended St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include husband Keith Middleton, Atlanta, Ga.; brother Richard James Hisey, Salisbury; sister Kelly Sue Brown, Halleyvill, Ala.; stepbrother William Harrison Nichols, Palm City, Fla.; stepsisters Christina Rathbun, Turbotville, Pa., and Cynthia Nichols, Salisbury; and maternal grandmother Florence Cottrell Mytinger, Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The family received friends of the Nichols family on Nov. 25.

Billy Miller

Billy Miller, 70, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Henrietta Moser

Henrietta “Hen” Hogue Moser, 50, 516 S. Caldwell St., died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston -Salem, after a serious illness.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

William ‘Bill’ Risner

William Charles “Bill”Risner, 73, Long Ferry Road, died Saturday (Nov. 24, 2001) at his home after a year of declining health.

Born July 31, 1928, in Rosebud, Ark., Mr. Risner was a son of the late Thomas Christian and Elizabeth Griffit Risner. He was educated in the Bonham,Texas, schools, where he graduated from Bailey High School. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Retired after 13 years as co-owner of Risner Dairy Bar, he was previously employed by the city of Salisbury. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include wife Betty Ricker Risner; sons Larry Risner, Yakima, Wash., and William Paul Risner, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters Tanya Michelle Kluttz, Spencer, and Valerie Denise Brown, China Grove; brothers Johnny Risner, Fort Smith, Ark., and Clayton Risner, Folsom, Calif.; sisters Iva Hoffman, Opal Walls and Beady Hightower, all of Modesto, Calif., Midge Lowenthal, Nebraska, and Ima Frame, Fort Smith, Ark.; eight grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chris Townsend and Chris Hutson.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.At other times, the family will be at the home on Long Ferry Road.
