LEXINGTON — Mary Cutting Adams, 64, Fowler Avenue, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Services: 2 p.m, Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Akers and the Rev. Max Shoaf. Burial will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Ruth Almond Frick
ALBEMARLE — Ruth Almond Huneycutt Frick, 86, 725 N. Third St., died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at her home.
Services: 2 p.m., Sunday at Stanly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Roy Sides and the Rev. Henry Lee. Burial will be at Friendship United Methodist Church cemetery.

Lucille P. Jackson
KANNAPOLIS — Lucille Pouncey Jackson, 93, Big Elm Retirement Center, formerly of Klondale Avenue, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, following several years of declining health.
Born July 20, 1908, at Highland Home, Ala., Mrs. Jackson was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Lucy Stough Pouncey.
She was a homemaker and a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Dewey Jackson, and a daughter, Mary Clark.
Survivors include sons. Russell Dewey Jackson Jr., Key Largo, Fla., and Joe Morris Jackson, San Francisco; brother Baxter Pouncey, Memphis, Tenn.; sisters Pauline Leatherwood, Kannapolis, Mattie Brewer, Manassas, Va., and Lucy Cook, Bradleyton, Ala.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 3:30 Sunday at Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the the Rev. Dr. Howard W. Tyas Jr. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

KANNAPOLIS — Carl Banxie Jones, 76, 4628 Rainbow Drive, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at his home following a sudden illness.
Born May 1, 1925, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Jones was a son of the late George and Lillian Ledbetter Jones.
He was retired from the slasher room of Cannon Mills Plant 1.
Survivors include his wife Lois Miller Jones; daughter Kathy Jones Horne, Kannapolis; sisters Violet Nance, Margie Mull and Raie Ann Sartain, all three of Kannapolis, and Sylvia Bridges, Mooresville; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m., Sunday at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Marler Starnes. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.

William ‘Bill’ Jones
CHARLESTON, S.C. — William A. “Bill”Jones, 73, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at Ashley Crossongs Rehab Center after four weeks of serious illness.
Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Black Mountain N.C., Mr. Jones was a son of Martha Gibbs Jones, Salisbury, N.C., and the late Winfred L. Jones. He was educated in the Buncombe County schools.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, he served in World War II and the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy and Danny Jones.
Survivors include wife Evelyn H. Jones, Charleston; son Johnny Jones, Charleston; daughter Lynn Jones, Charleston; brothers Winfred Jones, Charleston, Jack Jones, Kannapolis, N.C., Morris Jones, Salisbury, and Clyde Jones, Joe Jones and Charles Jones, all of Brevard, N.C.; sisters Ruby Powell and Dixie Jordon, both of Salisbury; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2:30 p.m., Sunday at J.Henry Sturr Funeral Home, Calhoun St., Charleston.

KANNAPOLIS — James Roberson Scercy, 74, 606 Hudson St., died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Oct. 14, 1927, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Scercy was a son of the late Bill J. and Mary Brown Scercy.
He retired due to disability from Cannon Mills Plant 1, No. 1 weave room and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Davidson Scercy; daughter Patsy Young, Gainesville, Fla.; stepson Ronnie Campbell, Concord; brother Charles Scercy, Kannapolis; and four grandchildren.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bennie Burgess. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

David M. Winstead
KANNAPOLIS — David Maurice Winstead, 62, 1528 Burning Lantern Lane, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Sept. 9, 1939, in Richmond, Va., Mr. Winstead was a son of the late Maurice and Dorothy Dobyns Winstead.
He was retired from the U.S.Postal Service and moved to Kannapolis in 1993. A veteran of the U.S.Army, he was a member of the Virginia National Guard for 30 years, retiring as a major.
Survivors include his wife Susan Gray Winstead; daughters Margaret Lynn Winstead-Leal, Glen Allen, Va., and Elizabeth Hart Winstead, of the home; sons David Matthew Winstead, Glen Allen, Va., and Andrew Gray Winstead and Patrick Saunders Winstead, both of the home; brother Richard Saunders Winstead, Roanoke, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 2 p.m., Sunday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jim Bowen and the Rev. Wes Judy.
Visitation: The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
